Did you know? Bots are taking over online! The movie I Robot was about a world where robots took over the world. Well, that day has come, at least online.. Bots, which are nothing but a computer program that was designed to mimic a human speaking, are taking over online. 

2014 - BOTS ARE INFESTING THE INTERNET, MULTIPLYING LIKE A VIRUS


The Bot Infestation
Bot infections continued in prevalence, with a host infected by a bot every 24 hours. In 2013, at least one bot was detected in 73% of our surveyed organizations, an increase from 63% in 2012. Organizations also struggled with containing bots. Check Point found that 77% of bots were active for more than four weeks. Bots also communicated with their Command and Control every three minutes.

Researchers Show How Easy It Is To Infiltrate Facebook

..So-called social botnets establish fake Facebook or Twitter accounts (or take over real ones) and mimic human actions to harvest valuable personal information like email addresses and phone numbers.Truthy, a website created by researchers at Indiana University to analyze the spread of Web memes, exposed a year ago how Twitter bots were used to run astroturf and smear campaigns during the 2010 U.S. elections. The action has matured enough to the point where social botnets are for sale on the Internet black market for as much as $29 per bot.

The UBC researchers set up a network of 102 bots controlled by a single botmaster piece of software. It’s pretty easy to set up sham automated accounts on Facebook. Hackers link their accounts to phony e-mail addresses, pick attractive photos for user profiles and pay cheap labor or use optical character recognition to the thwart the CAPTCHA codes that users have to input to “prove” they’re human.

The bots were able to send 8,570 friend requests. Eighty percent of Facebook users contacted okayed the requests. The botnet was then able to pull down email addresses, phone numbers and other personal data and not just of the direct connections but of Facebook users connected to those people. Their experiment showed that the controlling botherder can continue to do its work undetected and collect, on average, 175 new pieces of publicly-inaccessible user data per bot per day.

BOTS AS HUMANS


A second definition could consist of a live person who is mean and is devoid of any compassion, empathy or love. In other words, they are sociopaths or psychopaths, capable of causing immense human suffering and pain, without a second thought.  They would not care if a million people died due to their words, position, process, or stand. A human 'bot' would operate and say things much like a cold dead robot, replying only with logic when confronted with children, infants, or elderly suffering or deaths, caused indirectly or directly by the industry or people that the 'bot' is defending. 

Cold hearted ruthlessness is an attribute of bots, because they are nothing more than programs. Although bots can 'simulate' emotions and express words that sound like sympathy or love, they actually have no real feelings of empathy or compassion. Odds are that anyone who is abusive online as some bots and trolls are, was abused as a child or never got any love from their parents as a child.

Certainly, you cannot take a friendly bot out to dinner or hold hands. But if virtual reality is valued, many people can be deluded into 'falling in love' with an artificial bot online. Be careful out there.. Don't just accept friends to get another notch or person in your belt. You may be inviting in a bot with handlers behind the scenes intent on evil or malicious things, like stealing our ID, collecting your vital information to sell to someone, invading your home, kidnapping your children, etc.

"Joseph Weizenbaum (8 January 1923 – 5 March 2008) was a German and American computer scientist and a professor emeritus at MIT. In 1964 he took a position at MIT. In 1966, he published a comparatively simple program called ELIZA, named after the ingenue in George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, which performed natural language processing. [...] it was capable of engaging humans in a conversation which bore a striking resemblance to one with an empathic psychologist. Weizenbaum modeled its conversational style after Carl Rogers, who introduced the use of open-ended questions to encourage patients to communicate more effectively with therapists. 

The program applied pattern matching rules to statements to figure out its replies. (Programs like this are now called chatterbots.) In other words, it is possible to fall in love with a BOT, online. 

TESTING A BOT, CAN IT PASS THE 'IS HE HUMAN' TEST? 


There is even an example of a computer pretending to be a human, in a 'test'. At the University of Redding, a computer passed a 'test', convincing the judges that he/it was a human 14 year old boy.



PEOPLE FORM EMOTIONAL CONNECTIONS TO BOTS


For example, back in 2008, computer engineering students Zack Coburn and Greg Marra created a socialbot called @trackgirl, designed to infiltrate a group of running enthusiasts. When @trackgirl started following people on Twitter, they followed her back. As Marra wrote on his blog, @trackgirl started tweeting about her marathon training, and "she wove her way into the community. One day trackgirl tweeted that she had fallen and hurt her knee. Her followers immediately replied with concern, asking if she was ok." People had developed some level of emotional connection @trackgirl without knowing she was a robot.

That's what I find so fascinating and disturbing about social robots online. Imagine hundreds or thousands of autonomous software personas, each programmed to infiltrate and influence popular political opinion.

BOTS PRODUCE AD INCOME AND STEAL PERSONAL DATA 

Bots are bought and sold because they can infiltrate groups and get personal data on people, which can then be used or sold on the market. Bots can also generate revenue, because as they 'click' on ads, bots can produce an income for a large company, such as Google, Microsoft or Facebook, who sell per click or per view advertising. It is not in these huge companies best interest to eliminate bots or to ban them from the Internet.

Businesses on the other end of things are starting to develop counter measures to take bot responses out of analytics, which measure 'traffic' that is generated by advertising. 

Similarly, an account, group or individual profile can be made to look like it is very active and full of people, when really it is just full of bots, purchased for that purpose. So the next time you see a profile or group that has 1 million members, all may not be as it appears to be. 

BOTS AND THE MILITARY/GOVERNMENT PROPAGANDA MACHINE

Anonymous, a notorious hacker group, penetrated the e-mail accounts of the cyber-security firm HBGary Federal and revealed a solicitation of bids by the United States Air Force in June 2010 for “Persona Management Software”—a program that would enable the government to create multiple fake identities that trawl social-networking sites to collect data on real people and then use that data to gain credibility and to circulate propaganda.

US MILITARY ONE OF THE MOST ACTIVE USERS OF SOCIAL BOTS


The U.S. military is considered one of the most active entities in developing automated software that can manipulate social media sites by using fake identities to influence internet conversations and discussions, and to spread pro-American propaganda. The Guardian reported that a Californian corporation, Ntrepid, has been awarded a contract ($2.76m contract) with United States Central Command (Centcom), which oversees U.S. armed operations in the Middle East and Central Asia, to design an “online persona management service” that will allow one U.S. serviceman to control up to 10 separate identities based all over the world.

“Software will allow 10 personas per user, replete with background, history, supporting details, and cyber presences that are technically, culturally, and geographically consistent. Individual applications will enable an operator to exercise a number of different online personas from the same workstation and without fear of being discovered by sophisticated adversaries. Personas must be able to appear to originate in nearly any part of the world and can interact through conventional online services and social media platforms. The service includes a user-friendly application environment to maximize the user’s situational awareness by displaying real-time local information. ”

The Centcom contract stipulates that each fake online persona must have a convincing background, history, and supporting details, and that up to 50 U.S.-based controllers should be able to operate false identities from their workstations “without fear of being discovered by sophisticated adversaries.”

SMISC tracks ideas and concepts in social media as well as and their participants to analyze patterns and cultural narratives, as well as characterize generation of automated content, such as by bots.

Do you think it might be possible to not only infiltrate groups or accounts with bots, but then 'steer' the conversation or disrupt a group? What if a psyops campaign can actually take over a media outlet? It turns out, that is exactly what has been happening, both in Twitter, on Facebook and via Operation Mockingbird in the mass media. The CIA combines their propaganda, misinformation and deception together with a very welling global network of huge corporations that control more and more mass media outlets. Bottom line, most of the mass media is actually made up of corporate friendly propaganda combined with CIA 'Operation Mockingbird' disinformation campaigns, designed to portray corporations and industries, such as the nuclear power/bomb industry,  in a very positive light. The agenda is to stifle all dissent or real meaningful debate around corporations, 1% control, or negative news around such things as nuclear accidents for example. Any anti Communist news, such as human rights abuses in Communist China are off the table as well in the mass media these days, but they used to be really big featured items in years gone by. Why?

Because huge globalist corporations are now best buddies with Communist China and their policies through the 'fair trade' laws, and outsourcing all US jobs to that godless, undemocratic, absolutely no freedom or rights promoting country. The US mass media can no longer attack Communism, as the huge corporations have partnered up with the largest criminals in Communist China and they are now best buddies. Isn't that what used to be called a traitor and selling out your country?

More specifically, the CIA also runs and controls the military industrial complex, through their Atoms For Peace campaign, which works on the mass media side through Operation Mockingbird, by not allowing any dissent around nuclear energy, and portraying it as the answer to all of humanities problems every time anything is said about nuclear anything. 

Corporations now run propaganda campaigns in partnership with mass media outlets, and the CIA, especially where it involves things like nuclear power. This propaganda campaign started way back in the beginning of the atomic age, with Disney, who was one of the best pro war, pro nuclear power propagandists. Is it any wonder that Disney is still promoting nuclear power and nuclear subs that carry enough death on steroids to wipe out all life on the planet in the next five minutes?

Via combomelt August 5, 2014 "Yes, I have been reading the cacophany that is mbio-whatever-physicist. I couldn't get through any of the "bots'" incomprehensible posts. They didn't have the superiority flavor of our other "Guest", and that old biting flair for evasion was missing. In place of it we found OT rambling, non-sensical, almost anti-nuke support language and outrage at nuk-power. I guess the "chatter-bot" fooled me, but I didn't take "it" as being a pro-nuke entity on ANY level.

Ok, so if this new incarnation of purely electronic filth is an experiment in "psy-ops tech", and as stated above, "it" posts to confuse and disrupt, not to challenge/disprove, obfuscate or redirect. Then it seems TPTB have had very little to no success in disrupting or discrediting enenews. TPTB have switched their attack from fallible humans who have come here and utterly lost the war of words, and replaced them with "chatterbots" that are merely an incomprehensible annoyance.
Now i see the new troll incarnation with clarity, Thank you DangerKitty, maxli, codeshutdown, and others I have missed in their vetting of this "E-scum".

I would love to "play" with this "chatter-bot" in the OT non-nuk forum and attempt to influence what text it uses in its responses. Where does it pull its data from? Maybe the previous human trollers copied and pasted all of the enenews' reponses to the previous shills here, and used them in their "response database" for their unintelligible nonsense."

Can cough up some data here and there as if a real "trained professional" yet cant answer simple riddles. Do Enenewsers really think they are dealing with a real personage that can type 1500 WPM, has perfect transposition of script to pig latin (how appropriate!), knows what people do for a living? TROLLING WITH CHATBOT


In the video above, you can see how it is possible to have a conversation with an artificial intelligence, a bot, and possibly even think it is real.

It is possible to have arguments with bots, and bots can even profess to be intelligent, have degrees or advanced knowledge around a particular subject. They can even provide a name and an address, but of course, if someone checks it is either faked, or they have stolen the identity of that 'real' person and impersonated them. Bots are getting so good, it is very difficult to tell them apart from real people online.

Is it possible to have a long term relationship and fall in love with a bot? Time will tell, but trolls and bots are infesting the Internet. More details via the following link...

Bots are getting better and better. But one thing that bots cannot do (yet) is to have a wacky sense of humor, at least not yet. Because they are entirely logical, they do not get the nuances of human behavior, so they can be tripped up and 'tested' with things like asking them to be humorous, (not telling a joke), or asking them to solve a riddle or pick out words disguised within random letters. Bots have a hard time with riddles, random letters and humor, at least so far. But give programmers enough time and money, and that problem will also be solved eventually, at least well enough to pass an (are you really human) test. 

The best way to tell if a bot is real is to dive into a profile and ask for an email address, start a conversation, and then get a 'real' name and address, plus a phone number. Then visit the person and have a 'real' conversation in public at a coffee place or restaurant during daylight hours. Once you are next to a real person, and they check out via a background check, then you can be pretty sure it is not a bot.

Until you reach that point, be careful with your online information, don't just add friends to add friends (as they might be bots). Be careful with what information you share, because it may be a bot or troll on the other end, and their motives may be less than noble.

What would a virtual bot program inside of a computer look like if they are a real person? This is a tongue in cheek look at the world of bots, potentially being ordered to do a particularly unpleasant job, by a programmer 'boss'. Of course, some humans can be heartless, soulless 'bots' too, as in the case of trolls.
