Biggest ever solar storm could cause power cuts which last for months

The world is already precariously perched on the edge of a global economic collapse, what with the severity and unsustainability of global debt.  How about a little shove into the oblivion by the Sun itself?  This article indicates that a huge solar storm could crash the stock markets, as communications and the electrical grid go down for weeks if not months.  Pretty scary stuff.

The bible is very clear that a new economic system, which will be global in scale, will rule the earth during the days of the Tribulation, (Revelation 13, 17 & 18). The bible doesn't tell us though, just by which means and circumstances this new economic world order will be implemented.  It would have to be an event of such magnitude and scale, that all governments of the world would be effected all at the same time.  Perhaps a huge coronal mass ejection from the Sun, or the Rapture of the Church, or both?

The world is overdue for a ferocious 'space storm' that could knock out communications satellites, ground aircraft and trigger blackouts - causing hundreds of billions of pounds of damage, scientists say. Astronomers today warned that mankind is now more vulnerable to a major solar storm than at any time in history - and that the planet should prepare for a global Katrina-style disaster. A massive eruption of the sun would save waves of radiation and charged particles to Earth, damaging the satellite systems used for synchronizing computers, airline navigation and phone networks.

If the storm is powerful enough it could even crash stock markets and cause power cuts that last weeks or months, experts told the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
