NUCLEAR WEAPONS SEEN AS BEING LIKE ORDINARY BULLETS
In the Bulletin Of The Atomic Scientists, in an article entitled 'Japan's nuclear history in perspective: Eisenhower and atoms for war and peace', Peter Kuznick wrote: "Just like a bullet? On occasion, Eisenhower spoke almost cavalierly about using nuclear weapons. In 1955, he told a reporter: "Yes of course they would be used. In any combat where these things can be used on strictly military targets and for strictly military purposes, I see no reason why they shouldn't be used just exactly as you would use a bullet or anything else." When Eisenhower suggested to Winston Churchill's emissary Jock Colville that "there was no distinction between 'conventional' weapons and atomic weapons: all weapons in due course become conventional," Colville recalled, horrified, "I could hardly believe my ears."
PRESIDENT EISENHOWER WANTED TO USE NUCLEAR WEAPONS MULTIPLE TIMES
Eisenhower began transferring control of the atomic stockpile from the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) to the military. Europeans were terrified that the United States would start a nuclear war, which Eisenhower threatened to do over Korea, over the Suez Canal, and twice over the Taiwan Strait islands of Quemoy and Matsu. European allies begged Eisenhower to show restraint.
Public revulsion at the normalization of nuclear war threatened to derail the Eisenhower administration's plans. The minutes of a March 1953 meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) stated: "the President and Secretary [John Foster] Dulles were in complete agreement that somehow or other the tabu [sic] which surrounds the use of atomic weapons would have to be destroyed. While Secretary Dulles admitted that in the present state of world opinion we could not use an A-bomb, we should make every effort now to dissipate this feeling."
Eisenhower told the NSC in May 1954, "Everybody seems to think that we are skunks, saber-rattlers, and warmongers." Dulles complained, "Comparisons are now being made between ours and Hitler's military machine."

They succeeded beyond their wildest dreams, as public perception changed from fearful to supportive, and believing that everything related to atomic power and weapons was good for humanity.

Everything is prone to human failures and weaknesses, including nuclear bombs and missiles. There is no absolute fail safe for nuclear anything, as Fukushima has proven. Why would anyone believe that we can forever keep from pushing a nuclear button either accidentally, on purpose or via a glitch that was not foreseen? Especially if a country relies on computer software to launch a nuclear war, or has delegated pushing the button to a field commander who may go loopy from drug side effects, mental instability, or being drunk while on duty, the risks are much too high. NUCLEAR BOMBS TODAY ARE ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE LARGER THAN DURING HIROSHIMA DAYS
A nuclear war today would not bear any resemblance to the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Bombs have only gotten bigger and more powerful since the days of WWII. The 2 small dots at the bottom of the left hand side of the picture above represent the size of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombs. The much larger mushrooms moving to the right side of screen represent the nuclear bombs that will be used today, if nuclear war breaks out either accidentally or on purpose.
Here is another way of seeing what is going on with nuclear bombs over time.. The newest and most 'modern' nuclear weapons are growing larger and more deadly to all life on the planet. Despite the test ban treaty and the destruction of some nuclear weapons, the dangers are actually growing, not shrinking, just because of the increase in size of the remaining nuclear weapons.

Many people these days believe that nuclear energy is a good thing for human health, via the pro nuclear propaganda of hormesis theory. WHAT HAPPENS IF ONLY 100 NUCLEAR BOMBS ARE USED?
According to MEA; to reach an explosive yield of 120 KT in a nuclear weapons, we need a real fission of all atoms of 7 kg plutonium 239. But only 18% of the plutonium present in the charge are available to go into fission; so that at primary state you will have a weapon charged with 40 kg of plutonium 239 each.
Now, due to the high temperature of the explosion (1,000,000 of degrees Celcius) and the fact that plutonium 239 is a pyrophoric metal, the plutonium not fissioned will turn into a nano sized hot particle with nano dimensions (1/1000,000,000th of a meter). At this small size, plutonium acts more like a gas, moving around the world, and staying in the atmosphere, eventually being breathed in by radiation 'filters' which are called lungs.
