There are those who say that just because they have the gold, and they 'own' the land, own the trees, and that they get to make the rules. There are many people who want to profit from cutting down redwood trees or forests, both mature or immature.
There are those people who are willing to kill other people, steal, lie, pay bribes and do whatever it takes in order to get this profit. There is a literal world war going on today, between those who want to take, and those who live like the redwoods do, in harmony with Nature. So far, the takers are winning, but there is a huge price and many negative consequences to this never ending taking.

People have been killed trying to stop the wholesale clear cutting of hundreds of thousands of acres of old growth redwood trees, as well as other old growth forests all around the world, and no one was charged with any type of crime. A woman had a pipe bomb put in her car, and she was injured from it going off, in an attempt to kill her. The battle to save the oldest redwood trees on Earth has been brutal, bloody and shows no signs of letting up.
There are so many huge and global web of life issues created by cutting down redwoods specifically, it is hard to detail them all. A large part of the issue is that redwoods are treated like 'farms' with trees as part of the 'crop', which is 'owned' by the farmer. Clear cutting is just like harvesting a farm field with a combine, leveling everything to the ground, and hauling off the crop to sell it at the market.
Most tree 'farmers' act just like hunters, who take the biggest and genetically the strongest out, while leaving the weakest, youngest and genetically inferior trees. Taking this much biomass out of the forest has many and huge negative effect. Taking wood out of forests drains nutrients and biomass out of the topsoil, leaving each generation weaker than the previous one. In the same way, factory farms are destroying the soil that food is grown on, making each successive crop more devoid of nutrition and health.

To really understand the very complex and interdependent world that redwoods live and move in, one has to understand the web of life that they are hooked into. The first glimpse of this world consists of the understory. Many other species live underneath and around mature forests such as the redwoods..
Many different shrubs populate the understory of old-growth redwood forests. Among them are berry bushes such as red and evergreen huckleberry, blackberry, salmonberry, and thimbleberry. Black bears and other inhabitants of the forest make use of these seasonal food sources. Perhaps the most famous and spectacular member of the redwood understory is the brilliantly colored California rhododendron. In springtime, the rhododendrons transform the redwood forests into a dazzling display of purple and pink colors.

Redwoods are singing the song of life. Everything they do, they do for life and to generate more life. 'Civilized' humans seem to live life just to create death, suffering and more dying. Clear cutting forests is creating death on a global scale in so many ways.

Humans seem to be fixated on 'saving life' by destroying and killing it. Armageddon plus extinction of all life on the planet is the end result of worshiping at the alter of death, which has money at it's root. Maybe it is time to look at how humans can create more sacred life as the redwoods do?

A sacred grove or sacred woods are any grove of trees of special religious importance to a particular culture. Sacred groves were most prominent in the Ancient Near East and prehistoric Europe, but feature in various cultures throughout the world.

Maybe it is time to search for and learn how to see not only the sacredness in redwoods, but also in every person on the planet. How can humans honor the sacred life that is within all living things and in humans as well?

WHERE CAN DIVINITY BE FOUND?
What is your definition of sacredness or divinity, around plants, animals, trees, birds, Nature, and people? Is there anything sacred, divine or mysterious inside of you, or in the world? Or can everything and everyone just be reduced to to being bought and sold? Can everything and everyone be coldly analyzed on a statistical spreadsheet and accounted for on a balance sheet that needs to show an ever increasing profit, no matter what?
In high school I came across a quote by St. Bernard: "What I know of the divine," he says, "I learned in the woods." This seemed like a modest improvement upon the Catholicism I was raised in. Little of this style of thinking ever proved useful to me, but I still recall the slides the forestry professor showed of an old-growth redwood stand in California. The lecture hall all at once felt more like a cathedral than a mausoleum, and those photographic images might just as well have been stained glass. The redwoods towered with their greenness and handsome branches, their crowns lost in a misty rustle among the coastal clouds. Later, when I finally made it to California, I learned that the birds of heaven, here called marble murrelets, nested in the lofty redwood boughs, and ten thousand mysteries were lodged in the fern-thickened shade of the forest floor. The professor said nothing of all this; his mind was elsewhere. "Hurry up and get out there and see these trees now," he said. "All those senescent stands will be harvested within the next ten years. Even age rotations are what those timberlands need. Good forest management will take care of that."

When humans are considered from a redwood trees perspective, we are like ants, compared to humans. How would you feel if ants decided to cut you down and sell you for ant food or grind you up for ant toilet paper, just because they could, and you couldn't stop them?

Let's assume that a redwood tree consists of two parts; an above ground part and an underground part. Much like a mushroom, the roots are where the most important part or essence of this 'real' ancient living being may really be located. These trees originally grew 160 million years ago. Humans have only been around for 50,000 years, but somehow, humans think they 'know' it all and are so sure of everything.
The above ground portion of this living being dies every 3,000 years, much like mushroom fruiting bodies grow above ground, but quickly die back. The roots underground continue to live, invisibly. Does mycelium really ever die, as long as it gets food in the form of decaying matter to live on?

Do we count it's age by what pops up above ground for brief periods that is designed mainly to spread spores? Or do we count a mushroom's age by the mycelium fibers or 'roots' underground that live for many generations underground, invisibly? Does anyone really know how long these mycelium can live? In the same way, redwood root structures never die; they go on forever, living and getting nourishment from the above ground sprouts that pop up after the aboveground 'tree' portion is gone for whatever reason.
What would it feel like to live for not just 3,000 years, but for 160 million years? It is mysterious and awesome enough to live for 1,000 years before Christ ever walked this Earth, but it boggles the mind to consider a being living for 160 million years without dying. What would one learn? What would a being know and/or remember after being alive continuously for 160 million years? What evolution in awareness, perception and consciousness would be possible by living that long?

As far as humans, they live to 60 and at most 100 years compared to the 3,000+ years that the above ground portion of a redwood tree lives. Humans have the arrogant belief that they have not only the right but the obligation to wipe out this majestic long lived species that so precious little is known about. Humans know almost nothing about the 10,000+ physical species nurtured and supported by mature redwood trees, but have no problem with killing them all. Because redwoods are tied into all living things on the planet, it is not just the redwoods and the 10,000 species around them that are being killed, it is also human beings that are going to be cut out of the web of life.
The blanket of life is made up of many threads, and humans are ripping up and cutting the web of life as it if means nothing, and is of no value unless money comes out of it somehow for them personally.
Humans know even less about the invisible dimensions that redwood trees have access to and the multi-dimensional beings that are supported by redwood trees. There are many invisible dimensions that tree farmers and profit takers know nothing about at all, which shamans work in, on a daily basis. There are huge consequences to cutting down a mature redwood tree, which the profit takers know nothing about, but they will have to pay in ways they cannot even comprehend, much less imagine. First, because redwoods live eternally, outside of time and space as humans know it, they can teach humans how to do that as well, but only by sitting and being still, like a redwood. The mind is like the above ground portion of a redwood tree; it makes noise and generates things just as a visible tree does. But then there is the invisible below ground portion of the tree, silent, going deep, and seeing nourishment within. Ask the redwood to teach you about things outside of space and time, and it will. It lives there and has it's being there. A redwood tree can teach about eternity, because it IS eternity.
Humans are designed to seek out and access nourishment within, just like the roots of the redwood tree does, by going deep down inside. Humans can learn that they have access to an eternal life, just like redwoods do. Is is sad that most humans act as if eternity does not exist and that they are just dust which blows away when the human body drops and goes back to soil, like the above ground portion of the redwood tree.

What does that word 'eternity' mean, if it is accessible in your life? In what way do you define eternity, or spirit, or soul, or eternal life? How does eternity show up in your life today?
Ask the redwoods, as they have may have an answer, suggestion, or healing for you. They are living beings who operate in worlds and dimensions that most humans have no conception about.

The mature redwoods are there to answer, but to hear the answer you have to get very quiet and still, surrendering all that you think you know.

Maybe it is time to come full circle and learn something from those who lived in harmony with Nature and redwoods for 40,000 years... Maybe it is time to connect with Nature and with redwoods on a deeper and much more mysterious level.

The old shamans who lived in the thickly wooded Pacific Northwest had a strong spiritual connection with trees, much like the druids had with the oak in Europe. Through an assortment of rituals and charms, the shaman used his or her tree as a spiritual helper to ascend into the sky and consult with various cosmic beings in order to gain news of the other world. Among the Salish people, one of the most powerful spiritual helpers was known as "Biggest Tree," and it was reported to aid the shaman in obtaining special gifts made from cedar. These little gifts were in fact "alive" for those who had the power to perceive and use them. A similarly magical worldview lies at the very roots of the Great Western Tradition. In ancient Athens there was a religious sect known as the theoretikoi, who resorted to thick forests and quiet groves in order to conduct their meditative practices.
Maybe it is time to get quiet and listen to the redwood beings, who have lived for eons of time. Redwood beings get to keep the awareness of that, but humans have forgotten just about everything so they need reminding and remembering with the help of other beings of what is important, what is sacred, and what is mysterious, by the eternal redwood beings. What would it be worth, to consult with a being who lives outside of time and space as humans think that they know it?
The eternal redwoods can serve as a sort of 'ladder' that can be used to ascend into the other dimensions that Anita visited and came back from, by dying. Maybe these eternal redwoods have a much more sacred and important purpose than to be cut up and used for shingles, framing and matchsticks. Much higher quality more energy efficient homes can be built using straw bales, adobe and/or bamboo. There is no need to chop down redwoods for any reason.
Hopefully humans will learn some of the lessons that the redwood beings can teach, before it is too late. Maybe humans will start treating not only redwoods, but all of Nature as most sacred, most mysterious, instead of the opposite.
