Eternal Life And Amazing Lessons From The Tallest, Largest, Oldest Living Being On Earth; The Redwood Tree

http://youtu.be/WppVkmzkDv4

Does eternal life exist? Are there any examples of eternal life on Earth? What is the longest lived, tallest and largest living thing on planet Earth? Is there anything sacred in this world? This article will answer some these questions go into the question of eternal life. The article offers practical action points examples and ends with a question..

REDWOOD TREES DESCRIPTION

The three redwood subfamily genera are: Sequoia and Sequoiadendron of California and Oregon, USA; and Metasequoia in China. The redwood species contains the largest and tallest trees in the world. These trees can live to an age of thousands of years. This is an endangered subfamily due to habitat losses from fire ecology suppression, logging, and air pollution.

TALLEST TREE IN THE WORLD

The tallest tree in the world is a Sequoia sempervirens, the Hyperion Tree.

LARGEST LIVING THING IN THE WORLD

The largest tree in the world, by volume, is a Sequoiadendron giganteum, the General Sherman

This redwood has the title of being the largest living being on Earth.

Metasequoia glyptostroboides trees are so rare they were thought to be extinct, until rediscovered by a Chinese forester in 1943. They were found on mountainous slopes in remote parts of the Hubei region of China.

JOHN STEINBECK QUOTE ABOUT REDWOODS

John Steinbeck wrote about the redwood, "The redwoods, once seen, leave a mark or create a vision that stays with you always. No one has ever successfully painted or photographed a redwood tree. The feeling they produce is not transferable. From them comes silence and awe. It's not only their unbelievable stature, nor the color which seems to shift and vary under your eyes, no, they are not like any trees we know, they are ambassadors from another time."[12]

REDWOOD TREE SEEDS, TINIEST SEED COMPARED TO SIZE OF MATURE ADULT TREE

The seeds of the redwood tree grow inside of embryonic flowers at ends of branches. The seeds of the redwood are the smallest seeds that exist for the largest living being on Earth. The seeds are about the same size as those found in a tomato, which grows only a couple feet tall, and dies in a couple of months. Yet somehow, redwood trees grow to be the largest, tallest, most long lived beings on the planet from this smallest of tree seeds. It takes 2,000 to 3,000 years to reach it's maturity.

LESSON FROM REDWOOD TREE SEEDS

Many people believe that their lives have no purpose, no meaning and what they do or say makes no difference. Many people believe that they are so small and insignificant that their existence means absolutely nothing, much like a tomato seed.

Yet, in the redwood tree seed is an example of something that is so small, it is very difficult to find it. It is almost impossible to see a redwood seed even from a human standpoint. If humans are small when seen from the top of a redwood tree, redwood seeds are microscopically invisible.

LESSON FROM A REDWOOD TREE SEED

Redwood trees end up growing out of these smallest of small tree seeds to become the largest, oldest, tallest and longest lived beings on Earth. What lesson can be learned from this smallest tree seed?

Dalai Lama - "Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." -

It may be that the most important thing that you do for 7 future generations is to plant redwood tree seeds. Planting some very tiny and almost invisible redwood tree seeds sounds so insignificant, so small, so worthless, but it is very important that you do this, or something equivalent.

“The planting of a tree, especially one of the long-living hardwood trees, is a gift which you can make to posterity at almost no cost and with almost no trouble, and if the tree takes root it will far outlive the visible effect of any of your other actions, good or evil.”

Sustainable actions are measured not in terms of 100 years, but by the  end result of an initial action when looked back on 3,000 years later. What is the 3,000 year result that comes from planting redwood tree seeds or seedlings in your life today? Maybe your name will be honored and celebrated by 600 future generations, due to being the one person responsible for planting one or more redwood trees, or possibly even a whole grove of redwood trees.

“Tree planting is always a utopian enterprise, it seems to me, a wager on a future the planter doesn't necessarily expect to witness.”

WHAT SEEDS ARE YOU PLANTING WITH YOUR LIFE?

What 'seeds' are you planting with your daily actions? What fruit is your life going to produce for not just this generation, but for 600 future generations?

Redwood trees think like this. They think very long term, in the thousands of generations of humans. But what they say, think and feel, most people cannot hear, feel, understand or comprehend, because they are not even listening. Most people do not believe is even possible to commune with a tree, much less to be in harmony with Nature. Most people are too busy trying to figure out how to make money by chopping down redwood trees, for a short term gain. They don't know what invisible consequences they will reap from this.

What seeds are you planting in your life for 600 future generations, both inside and outside?

“I'm planting a tree to teach me to gather strength from my deepest roots.”
Andrea Koehle Jones, The Wish Trees

“Planting trees, I myself thought for a long time, was a feel-good thing, a nice but feeble response to our litany of modern-day environmental problems. In the last few years, though, as I have read many dozens of articles and books and interviewed scientists here and abroad, my thinking on the issue has changed. Planting trees may be the single most important ecotechnology that we have to put the broken pieces of our planet back together.”

LONGEST LIVED BEING ON EARTH: A SINGLE TREE CAN LIVE UP TO 2,000 TO 3,000 YEARS, MAY LIVE ETERNALLY THROUGH SPROUTS

Giant Redwoods

Live up to 2,000 years
Have branches up to 5 feet in diameter
Bark grows up to 12 inches thick
Can reproduce either by seed or by sprout

Giant Sequoias

Live up to 3,000+ years
Have branches up to 8 feet in diameter
Bark grows up to 3 feet thick
Reproduce by seed only

The important thing to understand from the giant redwood description is that the tree can and does grow from a sprout that comes up from the roots around the base of the original tree. Whether a giant redwood tree is cut down, is felled by a fire, or by old age, the sprouts come up after the loss of the above ground portion of the tree. The question is, does this tree ever really die? The sprouts come up from the original roots after all. Could it be that a giant redwood actually lives forever? And what does this 'eternal' life of a giant redwood offer humans?

REDWOODS THRIVED IN THE JURASSIC ERA, 160 MILLION YEARS AGO

The National Park Service reports that; "fossil records have shown that relatives of today's coast redwoods thrived in the Jurassic Era 160 million years ago. And while the fantastic creatures of that age have long since disappeared, the redwoods continue to thrive, in the right environment.

New sprouts may come directly from a stump or downed tree's root system as a clone.

Basal burls — hard, knotty growths that form from dormant seedlings on a living tree — can sprout a new tree when the main trunk is damaged by fire, cutting, or toppling.

Human beings have only been around on the planet for around 50,000 years, according to archaeologists. Maybe it is time that humans became a little bit more humble around this ancient life form, which has existed for all eternity, as far as humans are concerned. What actions would you take if you met someone who had lived forever? What would you ask them? What respect would you give them? Is the best that humans can come up with is how fast to kill them all?

FOG MAKES UP 40% OF THE WATER THAT REDWOODS NEED TO SURVIVE

Fog precipitates onto the forest greenery and then drips to the forest floor, providing a small bit of moisture during summer dry periods. Fog accounts for about 40 percent of the redwoods' moisture intake.
http://www.nps.gov/redw/naturescience/about-the-trees.htm

LESSON FROM REDWOODS LIVING ON FOG

What is the lesson humans can learn from this example? If the mightiest, longest lived, and largest being on the planet can live from getting nothing more than fog, what is the lesson for humans in that fact?

Why can't humans live like that? What if every home that people lived in had to manage it's resources just on what it received from Nature, and not via utility company connections, huge dams and monstrous poison spewing energy plants?

The lesson that redwoods offer to teach humans is to simplify, and use much less. Humans need to learn how to live with MUCH less, rather than focusing on always getting more and never having enough. Literally, humans need to learn how to live with the equivalent of fog, just like a redwood. If humanity wants to survive, humans need to learn to live in harmony with Nature just as redwoods have done for the last 160 million years. Homes such as Earthships prove that this can be done, but most people have never heard of this kind of housing, which proves how far removed from Nature most people and civilized countries are.

How can humans live off of the equivalent of 'fog'? The fact is that it can be done, as people have lived off of fog in the desert where there is no other water source at all. What would it mean to surrender and to live in simple harmony with Nature and to live off of what it provides, instead of dominating and fighting Nature, while trying to take as much as possible out of it and other people, in order to get more, in a never ending fashion? People who live in harmony with Nature think and feel much like redwoods, with a sustainable orientation.

Chris Maser, Forest Primeval: The Natural History of an Ancient Forest

MATURE REDWOOD FORESTS USED TO COVER ENTIRE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE OF THE PLANET

There are some redwood trees alive today that have been standing since the Roman Empire, more than 2,000 years ago. In fact, there was a time when redwoods covered the entire northern hemisphere of the planet, around the world.

“To be poor and be without trees, is to be the most starved human being in the world. To be poor and have trees, is to be completely rich in ways that money can never buy.”

HOW HUMANS ARE KILLING THE FEW SURVIVING REDWOOD GROVES BY CLEAR CUTTING THEM

According to the National Park Service; "Undoubtedly the most important environmental influence upon the coast redwood is its own biotic community. The complex soils on the forest floor contribute not only to the redwoods' growth, but also to a verdant array of greenery, fungi, and other trees. A healthy redwood forest usually includes massive Douglas-firs, western hemlocks, tan oaks, madrones, and other trees. Among the ferns and leafy redwood sorrels, mosses and mushrooms help to regenerate the soils. And of course, the redwoods themselves eventually fall to the floor where they can be returned to the soil.

The coast redwood environment recycles naturally; because the 100-plus inches of annual rainfall leaves the soil with few nutrients, the trees rely on each other, living and dead for their vital nutrients. The trees need to decay naturally to fully participate in this cycle, so when logging occurs, the natural recycling is interrupted."

A FEW PEOPLE, LIKE JULIA HILL, SACRIFICED MUCH TO TRY AND SAVE THESE MAJESTIC ONES

or-well November 11, 2014  She lived on 2 6×6 platforms, 738 days, in a tree, to save it -

Many other activists tried to save mature redwood trees, but were forced out of the trees and were legally charged with crimes such as trespassing, because the current state of law and justice sides with corporations that rape, pillage and destroy the Earth and the right to kill 3,000 year old beings, all for a handful of fiat money, some political power, and a bigger mansion, with fancy redwood, teak and/or mahogany features built into it.

“Fancy cutting down all those beautiful trees...to make pulp for those bloody newspapers, and calling it civilization. - Winston Churchill, remarking to his son during a visit to Canada in 1929”

“Listen to the trees as they sway in the wind.
Their leaves are telling secrets. Their bark sings songs of olden days as it grows around the trunks. And their roots give names to all things.
Their language has been lost.
But not the gestures.”
Vera Nazarian, The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration

WHAT CONSEQUENCES COME FROM THE PROFIT AT ANY COST CLEAR CUTTING FORESTS MODEL OF 'MODERN CIVILIZATION'?

There are those who say that just because they have the gold, and they 'own' the land, own the trees, and that they get to make the rules. There are many people who want to profit from cutting down redwood trees or forests, both mature or immature.

There are those people who are willing to kill other people, steal, lie, pay bribes and do whatever it takes in order to get this profit. There is a literal world war going on today, between those who want to take, and those who live like the redwoods do, in harmony with Nature. So far, the takers are winning, but there is a huge price and many negative consequences to this never ending taking.

“Spraying to kill trees and and raspberry bushes after a clear-cut merely looks unaesthetic for a short time, but tree plantations are deliberate ecodeath. Yet, tree planting is often pictorially advertised on television and in national magazines by focusing on cupped caring hands around a seedling. But forests do not need this godlike interference... Planting tree plantations is permanent deforestation... The extensive planting of just one exotic species removes thousands of native species.”

Art And Science Of Deception; Global Corporations, CIA, Journalism And The 1%, Whistleblowers, Voting, Elections And Solutions

People have been killed trying to stop the wholesale clear cutting of hundreds of thousands of acres of old growth redwood trees, as well as other old growth forests all around the world, and no one was charged with any type of crime. A woman had a pipe bomb put in her car, and she was injured from it going off, in an attempt to kill her. The battle to save the oldest redwood trees on Earth has been brutal, bloody and shows no signs of letting up.

There are so many huge and global web of life issues created by cutting down redwoods specifically, it is hard to detail them all. A large part of the issue is that redwoods are treated like 'farms' with trees as part of the 'crop', which is 'owned' by the farmer. Clear cutting is just like harvesting a farm field with a combine, leveling everything to the ground, and hauling off the crop to sell it at the market.

Most tree 'farmers' act just like hunters, who take the biggest and genetically the strongest out, while leaving the weakest, youngest and genetically inferior trees. Taking this much biomass out of the forest has many and huge negative effect. Taking wood out of forests drains nutrients and biomass out of the topsoil, leaving each generation weaker than the previous one. In the same way, factory farms are destroying the soil that food is grown on, making each successive crop more devoid of nutrition and health.

Another consequence of raising and then clearcutting huge mono culture forests is that the climate changes to become much drier, resulting in more and more megadroughts as well as desertification. Huge trees change the micro climate around them and a forest changes the regional climate. It used to be that in areas where huge, mature redwood forests used to stand, the weather was much different and it actually rained in the summertime. Now it no longer rains in the summer at all, and the mature redwoods are all gone, with nothing but an ancient memory left to show for it. Even the money that was gained has been spent on selfish living for instant pleasures.

As the forests disappear, so too does the topsoil, the wildlife, and the streams. As streams fill in with silt, the fish disappear. As the water in streams, rivers and lakes disappears, most of the rest of the web of life that used to be supported by those mature redwoods disappears as well. Droughts and megadroughts become much more common, as do huge superstorms, because they are not moderated and soaked up by the mature redwoods, who stand as the eternal guardians and protectors of all life.

As the climate dries out and storms are not moderated by huge, mature redwood forests, the storms become more severe and destructive. Everything is connected to and affects everything else. As mature forests disappear, so the web of life unravels and the supporting structures that nurture life come apart, which results in mass die offs and extinctions all across the living web, including all the way up to human beings.

Today, redwood tree farmers harvest the second and third generation of young baby redwood trees while they are still soft and immature. These trees have little or no resistance to rot, compared to the old mature trees. Redwood lumber these days is no different than pine. Both pine and redwood lumber these days rots, molds and is subject to termites. In the oceans, the same thing is happening. Baby immature tuna are now being caught and sold, before they even breed. Mature adults are so rare, that they get sold for 1 million dollars if one is caught. But that has not slowed the pace of the genocide of all trees and animals.

Old mature trees that are over 1,500 years old actually put on much more wood and grow faster as they age, compared to young trees, but redwoods are not allowed to grow to maturity these days, as short term profits are the fad of the day and people think not of eternity or even the next generation, much less causing extinction of the entire web of life. The only thought is about profit and how to get people to spend money on the products that come from this short term selfish thinking.

ALMOST ALL REDWOOD FORESTS HAVE BEEN CUT DOWN TWO OR THREE TIMES

National Geographic; The Super Trees
Except in small parks like Muir Woods outside San Francisco and Big Basin near Santa Cruz, where they encountered a few rare patches of ancient trees, they zigzagged 1,800 miles through stands that had been cut at least once and many that had been cut three times since 1850, leaving islands of larger second-growth forest in a sea of mostly small trees.

What happens to the forest ecology when a whole forest of redwoods is cut down not just once, but multiple times, with all of the wood mass (plus the minerals contained in them) hauled away permanently?

As the NPS article above points out, redwood forests are a complex web of intersecting relationships and living species that feed and support each other. Taking out all redwoods in an area threatens not only all of the other species that depend on the redwood trees, but it also threatens the redwoods with extinction, as their support bases and nutrition is taken away.

That’s how they came to know that the President contains at least 54,000 cubic feet of wood and bark. And that’s how they detected that the old beast, at about the age of 3,200, is still growing quickly. It’s still inhaling great breaths of CO₂ and binding the carbon into cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin in a growing season interrupted by six months of cold and snow. Not bad for an oldster.

UNDERSTORY

To really understand the very complex and interdependent world that redwoods live  and move in, one has to understand the web of life that they are hooked into. The first glimpse of this world consists of the understory. Many other species live underneath and around mature forests such as the redwoods..

Many different shrubs populate the understory of old-growth redwood forests. Among them are berry bushes such as red and evergreen huckleberry, blackberry, salmonberry, and thimbleberry. Black bears and other inhabitants of the forest make use of these seasonal food sources. Perhaps the most famous and spectacular member of the redwood understory is the brilliantly colored California rhododendron. In springtime, the rhododendrons transform the redwood forests into a dazzling display of purple and pink colors.
http://www.nps.gov/redw/naturescience/about-the-trees.htm

Many or most of these understory species disappear with the 'managed' redwood forests that make up the 'science' of modern forestry. Again, there are huge consequences, prices and costs to not allowing Nature to take it's course and forcing it to go into a man made, artificial way of surviving for short term profit. But those prices and costs are paid not by the corporation, but by the living web of life, the environment and human communities in the end.

IS THERE ANYTHING SACRED IN THIS WORLD?

If we asked redwood trees a question, what would we ask? Maybe a question would be; is there anything sacred in this world? What would be their answer?

Life is sacred. Beings that live the longest are the most sacred, as they are the 'holders' of the keys of wisdom. Humans are sacred as well, but humans don't often see this sacred part of themselves. Humans only rarely experience that they are sacred, or that all of life is sacred, and that those beings on this planet that live the longest are the most sacred of all.

There are a few 'sacred groves' around the world, guarded by special religious sects who recognize this truth. They dedicate their whole lives to guarding the sacred groves.

Sacred Groves
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_grove

Mature redwood trees could be seen as the most sacred being on the planet. This sacredness can be EXPERIENCED. Sacredness is not just an abstract word to read about. Sacredness is not just something to logically think about. Experiencing the sacred is a very deep, spiritual and meaningful part of the living experience of redwoods and potentially of humans as well. But humans have separated from Nature so much, and have gotten so far away from who they really are, that anything sacred seems frightening, threatening and scary, so it must be pushed away, due to fear of the unknown. Most civilized humans have forgotten so much, that when they run into spiritual reality, they are afraid of it, deny it, run away or try to kill it.

What should people be doing around redwood trees? How about treating them as a sacred being? How about respecting and honoring them as a multidimensional being that many tens of thousands of other beings depend on?

A hypocrite is the kind of politician who would cut down a redwood tree, then mount the stump and make a speech for conservation.
Adlai E. Stevenson

REDWOODS SING THE SACRED SONG OF LIFE AND MORE LIFE

Redwoods are singing the song of life. Everything they do, they do for life and to generate more life. 'Civilized' humans seem to live life just to create death, suffering and more dying. Clear cutting forests is creating death on a global scale in so many ways.

When we are stricken and cannot bear our lives any longer, then a tree has something to say to us: Be still! Be still! Look at me! Life is not easy, life is not difficult. Those are childish thoughts. Let God speak within you, and your thoughts will grow silent. You are anxious because your path leads away from mother and home. But every step and every day lead you back again to the mother. Home is neither here nor there. Home is within you, or home is nowhere at all.
Hermann HesseBäume. Betrachtungen und Gedichte

Growing foods on factory farms with carbon based chemicals is death creating. Factory farming animals is death creating. Patent drugs and medical readiation is death creating. Developing and using carbon and nuclear fuels is death creating. Developing and then using WMD, such as DU, nuclear bombs and agent orange is death creating.

Humans seem to be fixated on 'saving life' by destroying and killing it. Armageddon plus extinction of all life on the planet is the end result of worshiping at the alter of death, which has money at it's root. Maybe it is time to look at how humans can create more sacred life as the redwoods do?

SACRED GROVES

A sacred grove or sacred woods are any grove of trees of special religious importance to a particular culture. Sacred groves were most prominent in the Ancient Near East and prehistoric Europe, but feature in various cultures throughout the world.

Maybe it is time to search for and learn how to see not only the sacredness in redwoods, but also in every person on the planet. How can humans honor the sacred life that is within all living things and in humans as well?

“Even viewed conservatively, trees are worth far more than they cost to plant and maintain. The U.S. Forest Service's Center for Urban Forest Research found a ten-degree difference between the cool of a shaded park in Tucson and the open Sonoran desert. A tree planted in the right place, the center estimates, reduces the demand for air conditioning and can save 100 kilowatt hours in annual electrical use, about 2 to 8 percent of total use. Strategically planted trees can also shelter homes from wind, and in cold weather they can reduce heating fuel costs by 10 to 12 percent. A million strategically planted trees, the center figures, can save $10 million in energy costs. And trees increase property values, as much as 1 percent for each mature tree. These savings are offset somewhat by the cost of planting and maintaining trees, but on balance, if we had to pay for the services that trees provide, we couldn't afford them. Because trees offer their services in silence, and for free, we take them for granted.”

WHERE CAN DIVINITY BE FOUND?

What is your definition of sacredness or divinity, around plants, animals, trees, birds, Nature, and people? Is there anything sacred, divine or mysterious inside of you, or in the world? Or can everything and everyone just be reduced to to being bought and sold? Can everything and everyone be coldly analyzed on a statistical spreadsheet and accounted for on a balance sheet that needs to show an ever increasing profit, no matter what?

In high school I came across a quote by St. Bernard: "What I know of the divine," he says, "I learned in the woods." This seemed like a modest improvement upon the Catholicism I was raised in. Little of this style of thinking ever proved useful to me, but I still recall the slides the forestry professor showed of an old-growth redwood stand in California. The lecture hall all at once felt more like a cathedral than a mausoleum, and those photographic images might just as well have been stained glass. The redwoods towered with their greenness and handsome branches, their crowns lost in a misty rustle among the coastal clouds. Later, when I finally made it to California, I learned that the birds of heaven, here called marble murrelets, nested in the lofty redwood boughs, and ten thousand mysteries were lodged in the fern-thickened shade of the forest floor. The professor said nothing of all this; his mind was elsewhere. "Hurry up and get out there and see these trees now," he said. "All those senescent stands will be harvested within the next ten years. Even age rotations are what those timberlands need. Good forest management will take care of that."

The aborigine culture found no need to cut down redwood trees or old growth trees anywhere in the world for profit. They used what Nature and redwoods provided at no cost, and without any charge, but no more than that. They lived in a sustainable way at the base of these huge eternal redwood beings, living in harmony with them, being supported by them and supporting them in turn.

These Indian tribes and sustainable cultures could not even imagine cutting these huge, eternal giants down and using them to build a global corporate empire. They could not imagine 'owning' a tree, much less the land, the water or the air, as corporations and many people do today. When one starts to think in terms of eternity, time and 'ownership', as well as profit, chopping down and killing huge eternal epoch giants is not even in the realm of possibility, because it is so artificial and contrived from a 'taking' egoistic and heartless point of view.

Terms such as time, space, money, property, profits and ownership have no meaning and no value in the world of redwoods and how they operate in the unseen and unexperienced dimensions that they inhabit and live in. These things were seen as a 'disease' by the American Indians, and that infection is now destroying the whole world and everything living in it.

When humans are considered from a redwood trees perspective, we are like ants, compared to humans. How would you feel if ants decided to cut you down and sell you for ant food or grind you up for ant toilet paper, just because they could, and you couldn't stop them?

You live 100 years, and ants only live 1 month or less, but they think that they are entitled to take your life because need to build a larger store of ant food and get rich. Even this is a poor way to try and describe what a redwood tree thinks, feels and is trying to teach humans. Is anyone listening to them, as they try to teach 'the eternal way'?

“I went to the springs while the sun was still up, and sitting on a rocky outcrop above the cave mouth I watched the light grow reddish across the misty pools, and listened to the troubled voice of the water. After a while I moved farther up the hill, where I could hear birds singing near and far in the silence of the trees. The presence of the trees was very strong...The big oaks stood so many, so massive in their other life, in their deep, rooted silence: the awe of them came on me, the religion.”
Ursula K. Le Guin, Lavinia

IS ETERNAL LIFE POSSIBLE?

Let's assume that a redwood tree consists of two parts; an above ground part and an underground part. Much like a mushroom, the roots are where the most important part or essence of this 'real' ancient living being may really be located. These trees originally grew 160 million years ago. Humans have only been around for 50,000 years, but somehow, humans think they 'know' it all and are so sure of everything.

The above ground portion of this living being dies every 3,000 years, much like mushroom fruiting bodies grow above ground, but quickly die back. The roots underground continue to live, invisibly. Does mycelium really ever die, as long as it gets food in the form of decaying matter to live on?
https://mycotopia.net/topic/47753-the-nature-of-mycelium/

Let's start with an assumption that the 'tops' of redwood beings have been sprouting back up, above ground, continually since 160 million years ago, until now.. How old is a mushroom? Do we count it's age by what pops up above ground for brief periods that is designed mainly to spread spores? Or do we count a mushroom's age by the mycelium fibers or 'roots' underground that live for many generations underground, invisibly? Does anyone really know how long these mycelium can live? In the same way, redwood root structures never die; they go on forever, living and getting nourishment from the above ground sprouts that pop up after the aboveground 'tree' portion is gone for whatever reason.

What would it feel like to live for not just 3,000 years, but for 160 million years? It is mysterious and awesome enough to live for 1,000 years before Christ ever walked this Earth, but it boggles the mind to consider a being living for 160 million years without dying. What would one learn? What would a being know and/or remember after being alive continuously for 160 million years? What evolution in awareness, perception and consciousness would be possible by living that long?

How long does a redwood tree have to live before we call that living eternally or forever? As far as humans, they live to 60 and at most 100 years compared to the 3,000+ years that the above ground portion of a redwood tree lives. The living being that a redwood tree is made up of lives on below ground forever, potentially for 160 million years. Humans have zero concept of what this means.

Humans have the arrogant belief that they have not only the right but the obligation to wipe out this majestic long lived species that so precious little is known about. Humans know almost nothing about the 10,000+ physical species nurtured and supported by mature redwood trees, but have no problem with killing them all. Because redwoods are tied into all living things on the planet, it is not just the redwoods and the 10,000 species around them that are being killed, it is also human beings that are going to be cut out of the web of life.

The blanket of life is made up of many threads, and humans are ripping up and cutting the web of life as it if means nothing, and is of no value unless money comes out of it somehow for them personally.

Humans know even less about the invisible dimensions that redwood trees have access to and the multi-dimensional beings that are supported by redwood trees. There are many invisible dimensions that tree farmers and profit takers know nothing about at all, which shamans work in, on a daily basis. There are  huge consequences to cutting down a mature redwood tree, which the profit takers know nothing about, but they will have to pay in ways they cannot even comprehend, much less imagine. Even using redwood tree products involves paying a price, just like the ones cutting them down.

What can redwood trees teach humans who are willing to slow down and listen? First, because redwoods live eternally, outside of time and space as humans know it, they can teach humans how to do that as well, but only by sitting and being still, like a redwood. The mind is like the above ground portion of a redwood tree; it makes noise and generates things just as a visible tree does. But then there is the invisible below ground portion of the tree, silent, going deep, and seeing nourishment within. Ask the redwood to teach you about things outside of space and time, and it will. It lives there and has it's being there. A redwood tree can teach about eternity, because it IS eternity.

Humans are designed to seek out and access nourishment within, just like the roots of the redwood tree does, by going deep down inside. Humans can learn that they have access to an eternal life, just like redwoods do. Is is sad that most humans act as if eternity does not exist and that they are just dust which blows away when the human body drops and goes back to soil, like the above ground portion of the redwood tree.

Most humans are going down the wrong path so far, based largely on this mistaken belief that they consist of only the skin bag, which disappears completely after 50 to 100 years of 'living' an empty life based on profit and what can be 'taken' from Nature, and that if an eternal Heaven exists, it is separate from this life and will be accessed based on words alone. What if Heaven is not separate? What if Heaven is here and now and can be accessed within by getting still and quitting thinking, while surrendering to the larger forces and Nature's laws, which are at work at all times?

THE LESSON REDWOODS TEACH HUMANITY IS ABOUT ETERNITY

Most humans care not, what happens to 7 future generations, much less 600 future generations. Do you believe that humans can access eternity? What does that word 'eternity' mean, if it is accessible in your life? In what way do you define eternity, or spirit, or soul, or eternal life? How does eternity show up in your life today?

Ask the redwoods, as they have may have an answer, suggestion, or healing for you. They are living beings who operate in worlds and dimensions that most humans have no conception about.

Ask the redwoods. Write or journal about this. Meditate on it. Go on a sacred quest or a pilgrimage. Visit a sacred redwood grove and bring a sacred offering of a piece of Nature. Ask the redwoods a question. Ask for healing. Ask for more awareness or consciousness around this issue. Ask whatever you are led to ask them. The mature redwoods are there to answer, but to hear the answer you have to get very quiet and still, surrendering all that you think you know.

There are groups where you can learn to get still and go inside, such as the Quakers, who sit in silence and listen..

Maybe Anita Moorjani's life can offer some insight into what is possible as far as eternal life, if you don't believe that redwood trees offer humans anything of value, other than fiat money.

THE SECRET LIFE OF REDWOODS

Maybe it is time to come full circle and learn something from those who lived in harmony with Nature and redwoods for 40,000 years... Maybe it is time to connect with Nature and with redwoods on a deeper and much more mysterious level.

Exploring the Inner and Outer Mysteries of Life
http://agreenroad.blogspot.com/p/mystery.html

The old shamans who lived in the thickly wooded Pacific Northwest had a strong spiritual connection with trees, much like the druids had with the oak in Europe. Through an assortment of rituals and charms, the shaman used his or her tree as a spiritual helper to ascend into the sky and consult with various cosmic beings in order to gain news of the other world. Among the Salish people, one of the most powerful spiritual helpers was known as "Biggest Tree," and it was reported to aid the shaman in obtaining special gifts made from cedar. These little gifts were in fact "alive" for those who had the power to perceive and use them. A similarly magical worldview lies at the very roots of the Great Western Tradition. In ancient Athens there was a religious sect known as the theoretikoi, who resorted to thick forests and quiet groves in order to conduct their meditative practices.

Maybe it is time to get quiet and listen to the redwood beings, who have lived for eons of time. Redwood beings get to keep the awareness of that, but humans have forgotten just about everything so they need reminding and remembering with the help of other beings of what is important, what is sacred, and what is mysterious, by the eternal redwood beings. What would it be worth, to consult with a being who lives outside of time and space as humans think that they know it?

The eternal redwoods can serve as a sort of 'ladder' that can be used to ascend into the other dimensions that Anita visited and came back from, by dying. Maybe these eternal redwoods have a much more sacred and important purpose than to be cut up and used for shingles, framing and matchsticks. Much higher quality more energy efficient homes can be built using straw bales, adobe and/or bamboo. There is no need to chop down redwoods for any reason.

One may as well dam for water tanks the people's cathedrals and churches, for no holier temple has ever been consecrated by the heart of man.

Hopefully humans will learn some of the lessons that the redwood beings can teach, before it is too late. Maybe humans will start treating not only redwoods, but all of Nature as most sacred, most mysterious, instead of the opposite. Maybe then, humans will see themselves and each other as the most sacred, most mysterious, most divine beings, instead of the opposite.

Maybe someday soon, people all around the world will start to consider 600 future generations before making a business decision, instead of just thinking about short term profits and selfish interests. There is still hope, but time is growing very short, and the blanket of life is getting unraveled at a faster and faster pace, as more and more negative tipping points take effect.

The redwoods are waiting.  They are there, waiting, waiting, patiently waiting in eternity, to teach anyone who is willing to sit, be still and listen. Maybe patience and the enduring of tremendous suffering is another lesson that redwoods can teach humanity.
