Jon Stewart Learns What Happens When You Criticize Israel

Isn't the hysterical and emotion laden attack and counter attack (on both sides?) a little bit over the top, just for wanting to talk about the issue in a deeper way? Why can't there be a reasonable debate, between civil adults who have 'freedom of speech' in multiple supposedly free and democratic countries around the world, with what is supposed to be a free press in those countries?

If anyone who is not Jewish talks about anything other than a pro Israel point of view, they are immediately attacked as being 'anti-semites', no matter what they are saying, even if that point of view makes logical sense and the point being discussed is accurate and true.

Even Jon Stewart is attacked and his Jewishness is being questioned, because he dares to dissent from the majority who are lock step with anything Isreal says, does and/or illegally keeps secret. An example of what is being pointed at is illustrated via the article at link below.....

Isn't TRUE journalism all about airing both sides of the story equally, and then letting people decide? Whatever happened to journalism, much less investigative journalism in America? Helen Thomas on questioning the need for invading Iraq, speaking truth to power, being a dissenter. She is acting as a TRUE journalist would, looking at both sides of the issues, just like a true journalist is supposed to. Why was she attacked, smeared and was forced to resign over one comment she made, which was her own opinion. Can't journalists have opinions? Isn't Fox News all about journalists having very deep opinions on all manner of subjects? Why aren't they forced to resign, but Helen Thomas was?

IS FREEDOM OF THE PRESS STILL THERE?

Is there freedom to have and speak about all issues and have a variety of viewpoints in a free country, that has 'freedom of the press', or not? So far, only ONE side of the Israeli/Gaza issue is being shown and talked about in the vast majority of mass media coverage about this. Jon Stewart lays it on the line in his video above, expressing this same reasoning, as a Jew. Helen Thomas talks about how she was crucified for having a 'different' point of view than the sacred cow sanctioned and politically 'correct' viewpoint, which is always pro Israel, no matter what. Helen is basically pointing at how the press is not really free in America, or anywhere else, when it comes to Israel, (and many other issues as well.) Even a journalist with a 50 year successful history and huge accomplishments can be pushed out of work for saying 'the wrong thing' even once, just because she violating the implied corporate and religious/politically oriented censorship laws.  She is not alone in being forced out of the corporate controlled media world, as this has happened to many other TV personalities, news reporters and commentators. 

Is America REALLY free? Is there really 'freedom of the press', if a reporter cannot tell it like he or she sees it, based on interviews (with both sides) and seeing something through direct experience? Could it be that the American media and journalism community is really more concerned about being politically correct and punishing anyone who does not agree with the 'sacred cow' dogma by getting them fired and 'banished' from ever working again?

What do you think? In this great and free country called America, is a debate allowed about real issues that people care deeply about, can both sides be heard and listened to, without being immediately being yelled at, put down, smeared, fired, and banished from ever working again? 

Is it ok to talk about civilian casualties and refugees that are created in ALL wars? Is it ok for musicians to oppose ANY war? The pattern seems to be that if a band or public figure comes out against any war, they are then demonized via the mass media and/or fired from their job. Historically, any musical group that spoke out against war was punished severely by the mass media and associated corporate entities, effectively banishing them and giving them no more air time. Eno points at this and takes the risk of speaking out about Gaza in the following news clip and  in the passionate open letter he wrote.

IS PEACE BEING CENSORED IN MASS MEDIA? 

Is there an 'equal' right to dissent in America on 'sensitive' issues such as war/violence? Can a pro peace, anti war activist get air time on the mass media, without paying the price in terms of career, work, etc? Is it ever ok for musicians or journalists to speak out and make public their personal views in favor of peace? Is peace now a 'moral' crime in America, punishable by banishment and financial lack of support from huge corporate entities including the mass media? Why is it that the mass media seems to favor retired generals and those in favor of war, violence and killing as the solution for everything?

When did something like being pro peace or having a different viewpoint being expressed become a thing that merits firing and banishment? Is war and the military industrial complex now the new religion and cult that everyone has to worship and adore, and never a critical word regarding war mongering and war profiteering will be heard throughout the land? Everyone loves peace, but somehow, peace as a subject is censored in the mass media, and anyone who dares to talk about it is then fired, demoted, or loses all access to the media. Why is this?
