Remember that these things are only dividing people if that is the only thing focused on, because both sides can point to things like this, and they do. Each violent act seems to justify a revenge and and equal or greater act of violence. The roots of all of this seeming division are deep. The roots of the conflict need to be dug up and examined on all sides in order to get past the seeming chaos and need for revenge at any cost.
Could it be that there is a organized, systemic operation behind the scenes, to keep the violence going in all kinds of ways globally, for a profit and power based reason? What would be the motive for Zionism, if not this one? There are many moving pieces and differing points of view inside Palestine. ONE STATE SOLUTION, DISMANTLE APARTHEID REGIME
There are three sets of laws in Israel, for three types of people living inside of that country. Only one set of laws are democratic. These democratic laws apply ONLY to Jewish citizens. The other two sets of laws are the same as the ones in Africa under an Apartheid minority regime and apply to everyone else living in the Israeli state, much like the separate discrimination and segregation laws for blacks in the deep South of the US or the US slavery and anti American Indian laws in earlier times.
Apartheid was gotten rid of in Africa through an international effort that included boycotting, political pressure, and bottoms up pressure from the population being oppressed. Slavery was gotten rid of in the United States. Repressive Communism was gotten rid of in the Soviet Union. The repressive and apartheid like Zionist state needs to be gotten rid of in Israel. To get rid of Apartheid in Israel, it will take an international coalition of many different organizations to make this happen, much like it did in Africa, to get rid of the worst of Apartheid.
Once Apartheid was gotten rid of in Africa, Nelson Mandela also got rid of all nuclear weapons, so the same thing can happen in Israel. The current 'government' by a Zionist minority, is based largely on fear, so they have to arm themselves to the teeth and take on a very hard, defensive posture, while committing all kinds of illegal actions to stay in power, including assassinations, bombing foreign countries illegally, etc.

Does the Middle East have any models or examples that can be copied or emulated? The answer is; yes.
TWO SUCCESS MODELS TO START WITH IN THE MIDDLE EAST
"You have two emergent models, both frail and neither perfect, where Muslim Middle East nations have built decent, democratizing governance, based on society and with some political, cultural and religious pluralism: Tunisia and Kurdistan. Again both are works in progress, but what is important is that they did emerge from the societies themselves. Privileged (children or adults) never want to give up their 'special' status, so the resistance to a one state solution and the end of Zionism will more than likely not be from the Palestinians, but from the Israelis, who now enjoy a special, privileged status, based on a fundamentalist, violent, repressive and very fear based belief system. Zionism is currently supported by the US and more specifically by the military industrial complex operating within it's own Zionist center in the US government. But that is another article.
