Germany Can Now Produce 50% Of It's Energy From Solar

Continuing its unrelenting march toward a renewable-powered future, Germany now can produce more than half of its energy from solar. The official word of this milestone comes from the Fraunhofer ISE research institute, which showed that the country produced a record 24.24 GW of solar energy during the first week of June. Thanks to better weather in Germany compared to last year, the production of solar power has increased 34 percent in the first part of 2014.

The US has 3.6 GW of installed solar. Solar energy makes up only .2% of total US energy supply. Republicans keep working on cutting all subsidies for all renewable energy, while boosting those for oil, gas and nuclear. Republicans keep fighting to maintain  and support monopoly control of energy sources. Yet, people keep voting these people in, contrary to their own best interests. 

90% of Germany's solar energy comes from individual homeowners buying and installing solar on their own homes.  The difference between the US and Germany is that German law requires utilities to pay a fair retail price for all energy produced by solar on people's homes, resulting in homeowners actually making a profit of 3 to 5% on their solar energy produced beyond what they use. 

In the US, there is NO profit for energy produced beyond what is used by a homeowner. The monopolies like it this way, because it keeps solar energy and other renewable energy sources out of the carbon and nuclear fuel monopolies turf, and absolute market control.
