EPA Raises Allowable Radiation In Drinking Water By 27,000 Times, Allows 1 in 1.7 People Cancer Rate

EPA LOWERS Public Health Guidelines For Radiological Or NUCLEAR Attacks And Accidents

"For example, the new EPA guide refers to International Atomic Energy Agency guidelines that suggest intervention is not necessary until drinking water is contaminated with radioactive iodine 131 at a concentration of 81,000 picocuries per liter. This is 27,000 times less stringent than the previous EPA rule of 3 picocuries per liter.

The EPA limit for the safe amount of radiation in drinking water used to be 3 picocuries per liter.

1200-2012 limit; 3 picocuries/liter

2013 limit 81,000.00 picocuries/liter

What is the effect going to be of allowing this massive amount of radiation in water and/or milk as well as juice on children's health, knowing that they are up to 2,000 times more sensitive to the same dose of radiation compared to a healthy male adult?

First, the EPA can find 80,000 picocuries per liter and say the water or milk is still ok to drink, because that level would be below their minimum 'action level'. But what does this minimum action level really mean in terms of effect on health?

The old limit allowed up to 1 cancer in 10,000 healthy adult people to 1 in 1 million people, assuming someone drank this legal maximum in milk, juice or water. Now that same rate of 'acceptable risk' has lowered this standard, so that a worst case 1 in 1.7 per person CANCER RATE is still ok, with no 'action' or intervention needed.

According to Enviroreporter, the cancer rate from this supposedly legal amount of radiation in water, milk or juice could cause cancer in a range of 1 out of 1.7 people to 1 in 10 people. In other words, if the legal maximum was allowed with no ability to sue anyone for anything, a large number of people would get thyroid or other cancer from an invisible radiation that could come from a nuclear accident such as Fukushima, TMI or Chernobyl.

NO MORE RADIATION WARNINGS

Another effect would be that in case of radioactive contamination of water, milk or juice, no one would have to be notified unless the 'safe' PAG limits above were exceeded. In other words, no warnings or advisories would be issued until the radiation exceeded the amount that would cause cancer in just about every person exposed. This has already happened in Tokyo, which should have been evacuated, but it wasn't, because there is no realistic way to do it.

According to Dr. Helen Caldicott MD, the EPA stopped testing air, food and water shortly after the Fukushima disaster, despite the dangers of this radiation bio concentrating up the food chain. A message came down from President Obama, who was funded by Exelon (a nuclear company), that no agency was to investigate or pursue anything related to Fukushima, no matter what.

The cancer rate around nuclear plants is much higher for children than anywhere else. But the EPA refuses to act on this information from many studies. The incubation period for cancer from a nuclear accident is 5 to 70 years, documented from many studies. The cancer does not identify itself and say; "I am a hot particle in your lung or liver, which is causing your cancer and death". Radiation is invisible, tasteless, odorless and will not warn you at all, even with deadly levels that can kill in a few minutes.

Low dose radiation causes genetic changes, and none of those changes are positive.

NO MORE EVACUATIONS DURING NUCLEAR ACCIDENTS OR DISASTERS

Imagine what happens if a nuclear plant melts down near YOU... What are the evacuation plans for your city? What is the plan for distributing iodine tablets in case of an accident? Most nuclear plants and emergency responders have no plan for iodine distribution, much less a realistic evacuation plan. Check and find out for yourself if you don't believe it.

Another thing that this new standard means is that people would no longer be evacuated out of radiation 'hot spots' in case of a nuclear accident or radiation exposure event.

Around Chernobyl and Fukushima, thousands of people were evacuated and got compensation for damages, plus free medical care.

With this new, much higher and close to lethal radiation contamination standard, none of that will happen. People will be forced to live in very highly radiation contaminated areas with no warnings, no notifications, no evacuations, no right to sue, no right to medical care and no reimbursement for damages, because it is all 'legal' and below minimum action limit.

Because of these new maximum standards, potentially MILLIONS of people will be forced to live in very highly radiation contaminated areas with no warnings, no notifications, no evacuations, no right to sue, no right to medical care and no reimbursement for damages, because it is all 'legal' and 'safe'. In summary, the EPA has passed some very sweet pro nuclear industry 'rules' that increase the cancer rate in case of any nuclear accident, without any public debate. No formal people's representatives were allowed to weigh in, and no public notice was issued via mass media or newspapers. Basically, the EPA no longer represents either the public or the environment, because by taking this action, they are very definitely staking out new ground in the arena of being promoters and defenders of the nuclear industry. The result of this rule will be vast and increasing amounts of nuclear waste spread all over the USA, with no legal compensation possible for damages.
