1962 - 1964 – RTG's; Multiple Plutonium Containing Satellites Melt Down And Burn Up On Reentry

When a normal reactor melts down and out, mostly uranium is released, but a small amount of plutonium is also released. The following satellite crashes are included in the reactor meltdown category, because the net effect and health impact from the release of several pounds of plutonium from each of these is equal to a nuclear reactor meltdown, due to the extremely far reaching and deadly effects of spreading plutonium nano dust from a high atmosphere level all around the globe.

It only takes one hot particle of plutonium from one of these accidents to cause lung cancer. Putting nano particles of plutonium into high orbit must be stopped, as should all launches of any space vehicle containing anything radioactive.

SNAP 9A PLUTONIUM SATELLITE BURNS UP, SPREADS CANCER CAUSING PLUTONIUM

NASA has used nuclear power on space missions since the 1950s and there have been accidents. Of the 26 US space missions which used plutonium that are listed in the EIS for the mission involving Curiosity, three underwent accidents, the EIS admits. The worst, in 1964, was a satellite with a SNAP-9A plutonium system aboard failing to achieve orbit and dropped to Earth, disintegrating as it fell.

The 2.1 pounds of plutonium fuel dispersed as fine particles widely over the Earth. The late Dr. John Gofman, professor of medical physics at the University of California at Berkeley, long linked this accident to an increase in global lung cancer.

Because of the SNAP-9A accident, NASA switched to solar energy on satellites. Now all satellites and the International Space Station are solar powered.

The background Pu ratio in global fallout has been reported 0.035 ± 0.008 "background Pu ratio", Hard to get ones mind wrapped around that. Plutonium never stays in the background.  It likes to be front and center.

RUSSIAN MARS 96 CRASHES WITH PLUTONIUM ON BOARD

Bruce Gagnon, coordinator of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space (www.space4peace.org), comments: "This Russian space mission failure should be a clear reminder to all of us -- space technology can and does fail."

Gagnon said the situation "reminds me of the Russian Mars 96 mission that also failed to achieve proper orbit and fell back to Earth with plutonium on board and burned up over the mountains of Chile and Bolivia." There was nearly a half-pound of plutonium on the Mars 96 space probe that also failed and crashed back to Earth. "A NASA scientist and his wife were on a star-gazing expedition" near the site where the probe fell in 1996 and "saw the fiery reentry," he recounted. "Bill Clinton was president then and was asked to send in radiological teams to help detect the contamination swath, but he refused to help because he didn't want to alarm the public. So that toxic mess was never cleaned up."

TRANSIT 5BN-3 - 300% INCREASE IN PLUTONIUM IN ATMOSPHERE DUE TO ANOTHER SATELLITE MELTING AND BURN UP

Wikipedia; "April 21, 1964 – Indian Ocean – Launch failure of a RTG powered satellite

A U.S. Transit-5BN-3 nuclear-powered navigational satellite failed to reach orbital velocity and began falling back down at 150,000 feet (46 km) above the Indian Ocean.[16] The satellite's SNAP-9a generator contained 17 kCi (630 TBq)[17] of 238 Pu (2.1 pounds of plutonium), which at least partially burned upon reentry.[18][19][20][21]

Increased levels of 238Pu were first documented in the stratosphere four months later. Indeed NASA (in the 1995 Cassini FEIS)[17] indicated that the SNAP-9a plutonium release was nearly double the 9000Ci added by all the atmospheric weapons tests to that date.[22][23]

The United States Atomic Energy Commission reported a resulting threefold increase in global 238Pu fallout.[24][25] All subsequent Transit satellites were fitted with solar panels; RTG's were designed to remain contained during re-entry."

Although this is the only satellite reported with plutonium on board, it is not the only one. Some others are listed below. Every one of these satellites will also eventually decay in their orbit and fall back to Earth, just like the one above, which means that the plutonium inside will burn up and be distributed as cancer and disease causing nano dust, just like the one above. This burning up of a satellite is the equivalent of a nuclear reactor melt down, due to the sheer danger and lethality of plutonium. Theoretically, one pound of plutonium dust distributed equally into all lungs of people on Earth would kill everyone.

The video above claims that all plutonium containing satellites are safe, and it claims that no plutonium should be released, because 'safety' tests have been performed by Los Alamos Labs on the plutonium container. Why was plutonium documented as being measured in the atmosphere after a satellite came back into the atmosphere above? Could it be that they did not design the container to withstand the high temperature reentry process? After all, a meteor is made of solid rock and those rocks melt, break apart and turn into flaming dust on reentry. Rock stands a better chance than metal. The loss of the space shuttle and watching it turn into flaming pieces and then dust should give pause to anyone believing these claims of 'safety' for a container full of radioactive plutonium.

MOX FUEL PRODUCED RTG FUEL - PU 238 IS MUCH MORE TOXIC AND CANCER CAUSING THAN PU 239

Bill Duff October 29, 2014  "MOX reactor-fuel recycling increases the specific activity over time. The fuel becomes more volatile, so to speak. Thus the FDU-3 detonation scattered Pu-238 (Rocket Fuel) across several thousand square miles of Japan. Pu-238 is MUCH more radioactive and health hazardous than the Pu-239 used in the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb of 1945. All plutonium is horribly carcinogenic in human lungs; and Rocket Fuel is the worst. This is due to the short half-life.

RTG is a truly HORRID idea..."

8 Plutonium Powered Satellites

How many plutonium powered satellites were launched in total? Just with a short search, 8 of these were found. If 8 can be found easily, then the total number is easily over 100, possibly many more than that. What is stopping other nations from doing exactly what the US has been doing; launching toxic, deadly radioactive material into orbit, so that it can come back down and pollute the Earth forever?

"Transit 4A, launched June 29, 1961, was the first satellite to use a radioactive power source (aSNAP-3).[12] Transit 4B (1961) also had a SNAP-3 RTG. Transit 4B was among several satellites which were inadvertently damaged or destroyed in a nuclear explosion, specifically the United States Starfish Prime high-altitude nuclear test on July 9, 1962 and subsequent radiation belt.[13]

Transit 4A - above
Transit 4B - above, destroyed by Starfish Prime
Transit 5A3 (1963) had a SNAP-3 RTG.[14]
Transit-5BN-3 - description above, failed launch, melted and burned on reentry
Transit 5B-1 (1963) had a SNAP-3 RTG.[15]
Transit 5B-2 (1963) had a SNAP-9A RTG.[16] crashed and burned up on reentry
Transit-9 and 5B4 (1964) both had "a nuclear power source".
Transit-5B7 and 5B6 (1965) both had "a nuclear power source"."

Assuming each one of these satellites has about 2 pounds of plutonium on board, that means 16  to 1,000 pounds of plutonium will eventually end up in the high stratosphere and slowly drift down to Earth, to be inhaled or ingested by plants, animals and humans. The jet stream and air currents then takes this super deadly plutonium all over a very large part of the globe, as the following mini illustration shows.

These plutonium containing satellites should be taken out of action by pushing them out of orbit and into space, or by loading them into a space shuttle and bringing them back to Earth before they fail and burn up. The odds are great that nothing will be done and all of these plutonium containing satellites will burn up and spread plutonium all over the planet, in ever increasing amounts.

Further than that, unless stopped, those same people who are putting potentially hundreds if not thousands of plutonium satellites into orbit are also the same types of people pushing nuclear powered spacecraft and nuclear powered rockets that can go into orbit via explosive nuclear charges underneath the rocket. According to them, it only takes 2,000 pusher mini nuke bombs to get a rocket into orbit, which results in 'only' 2 deaths per launch due to the radiation.

What is the next step? Is humanity really going out into space to explore the galaxy and make contact with other races, through the use of toxic and radioactive nuclear technology? Of course, nuclear weapons will have to be taken along as humans explore space, because those pagans out there in space need to be taught a lesson and get wiped out, so we can take over their planets.
