Economy: The rising cost of eating

Prophecy Sign:  Run-away food prices

We have been seeing an escalation in food prices for several months now. Major weather events, political/civil unrest and a fragile economy have all contributed to this escalation in prices.

Imagine what will happen if the Middle-East explodes into a full-scale war, (perhaps even nuclear), the EuroZone collapsed and the world economy followed suit as oil prices doubled or tripled in price? In just a few short weeks you would have global panic and civil unrest like nothing ever seen before as food prices shoot through the roof. Just as the Apostle John foresaw:
Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!” Revelation 6:6 NIV

From the article:
A surge in food prices this year is impacting local grocery stores and restaurants, which in turn affects the people buying food from these places. But in many cases, owners of eateries and shopping venues say they have little choice but to raise prices to keep up with costs.
The U.S. Agriculture Department said last week that it expects retail food prices to increase 3.5 percent to 4.5 percent this year, after climbing just 0.8 percent in 2010. Jo Natale, the director of media relations at Wegmans, said a couple factors have led to the increase. “Higher commodity costs, higher energy costs and a greater demand for food globally has contributed to driving food costs up,” said Natale. “Cost increases are pretty consistent across the board.”
