Prophecy Sign: A global food crisis during the Tribulation period.
Revelation chapter 6 describes a time when food prices will become so costly that it will require a days wage to purchase only enough food for a single day. Already we are seeing events, (droughts), which are causing food prices to rise. Add in a full-scale war fought in the oil rich middle-east and watch the cost of food skyrocket like never before seen.

World food prices are being propped up by the cost of cereal crops, which have risen on anticipation of a shortfall in production this year. There is likely to be six million tonnes less than was predicted in July. Global food prices are now at record highs according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization which has been assessing a range of essential foods.

Food prices could rise next year because an unseasonably hot summer likely damaged much of this year's corn crop. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated Monday that a surplus of 672 million bushels of corn will be left over at the end of next summer. The estimated surplus is down from last month's forecast and well below levels that are considered healthy.
