O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not
stand aloof, O God. See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads.
With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you
cherish. “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that
name is remembered no more.” Psalm 83:1-4 NIV
From the articles:
A new war between Israelis and Palestinians right now would
have immediate, horrific repercussions for the people who live there. It would
also have potentially disastrous consequences for those who want freedom and
democracy in the
West who would like to see a moderate Arab world emerge from the regional wave
of popular uprisings.
The key question is: Who would benefit from war at this
moment? The answer is long and troubling. The list of potential beneficiaries
of a Palestinian-Israeli war includes
Bashar Assad, the Iranian regime,
Muslim Brotherhood, Hezbollah in
possibly Hamas in
certainly radical Islamists all over the Arab world.
For
Islamic Brotherhood and the even more radical political forces in the country,
an Israeli-Palestinian war would come as a fantastic gift, especially as the
country gears up for elections.
