An amazing thing is happening in Israel;  Vast riches of both oil and natural gas are being discovered in the Holy land, just at a time when security of those resources from elsewhere may dry up for the nation of Israel. 

In fact, these news discoveries will ultimately make Israel a very rich nation as she begins to export to other nations.  This will undoubtedly anger and cause much envy amongst Israel’s Muslim neighbours who think Israel is a usurper in the land they call Palestine. 

A time will come when Israel’s enemies will come down on the Jewish State, both to wipe it off the map, (Psalm 83), and to take much plunder, (Ezekiel 38)

Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her villages will say to you, Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder? Ezekiel 38:13 NIV

In a March 11, 2011 Jerusalem Post article Dore Gold, president of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and former Israeli ambassador to the UN stated that Israel’s newly discovered fossil fuel reserves could ‘revolutionize the global energy sector’. The article goes on to report that, at the same time Israel holds the world’s third largest oil shale deposits and, because Israel’s Tamar gas field is capable of supplying the country’s domestic natural gas fields for the next twenty years, 100% of the gas harvested from the Leviathan field (estimate at twice the volume as Tamar) could go to export markets.

First it was two major offshore natural gas field discoveries. Now it’s an ambitious plan to exploit Israel’s massive shale oil deposits in the Shfela Basin. The gas finds alone will make the country self-sufficient in natural gas for decades and debut Israel as a key regional energy exporter. The latter, if successful, would quite simply catapult Israel into the energy superpower league. Not surprisingly domestic excitement over Israel’s prospective new energy status is palpable, with the state’s energy insiders barely able to contain themselves, and with good reason.

In Bible prophecy, Libya is included in the Russian-Iranian alliance against Israel in “the last days.” Ezekiel 38-39, tells us that ‘Put’ is one of the nations that joins the ‘Gog/Magog’ alliance against the nation of Israel. Ancient historian Flavius Josephus records that ‘Put’ or ‘Phut’ is ‘Libyos.’ Ancient Libyos included the territory of modern Libya. Regardless of the outcome of the current military and political struggle in Gadhafi’s Libya, Bible prophecy tells us that one day, Libya will be a part of the alliance with an ‘evil thought’ in its head, to invade the land of Israel to take a ‘spoil’ – maybe oil?
