There will come a day when Israel will enter into a covenant of peace which will have a seven year time span. This agreement is detailed in Daniel 9:27. This seven year period will begin what we know as the Tribulation period, (the last 3 1/2 years being called the Great Tribulation). We also know that the one that will broker this deal will be the Man of Sin, (Antichrist), who will rise out of the revived Roman Empire , the current European Union.
It is therefore of great importance to be aware of news headlines like these that announce that the European Union is stepping up its pressure on Israel to reach a peace agreement with the Palestinians by September of this year. We can't say for sure that such an agreement, if reached by September, would be the covenant spoken of in the book of Daniel.
In fact, it's our belief that no such agreement will ever be reached for a two-state solution. We believe that a collapse in the peace talks, along with the current upheavals in the Middle-East, will set the stage for the fulfillment of the end-times war prophesied described in Psalm 83, Isaiah 17, and other passages. A full-out assault on Israel by her Arab neighbors, and a subsequent overwhelming victory by Israel will be the platform from which a seven year peace agreement between a much more powerful Israel and the remainder of the World will come about.
However, we could be quite wrong in our assessment, and a possible September peace agreement could be the final sign as Dr. Jack Van Impe contends. So keep watching the headlines, and be aware of the significance of the European Union when it comes to Israel and any peace talks.
He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing [of the temple] he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him." Daniel NIV
From the articles:
The European Union is telling Israel that growing instability in the Middle East makes it imperative to immediately resume the stalled peace process with the Palestinians. Hungary 's foreign minister Janos Martonyi, whose country currently chairs the EU, told his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman on Tuesday that time is pressing and that the Israeli-Palestinian talks remain the core issue. Lieberman, who is holding talks with the EU as part of a decade-old association agreement, also said it was important to resume direct peace talks with the Palestinian Authority.

With all the attention being accorded to Arab uprisings of the past month in Tunisia , Egypt , Libya , Yemen and Bahrain , the real Middle East menace, Iran , seems all but forgotten. Adding injury to imprudence, a mythology is developing which replaces the Iranian threat with Israel – the new, true threat to regional stability. Two insidious arguments make up this emerging mythology: that Israeli unwillingness to speed towards peace with the Palestinians threatens to further destabilize the Middle East at a sensitive time; and that Israel is on the wrong side of history because it seeks to chill Western enthusiasm for glorious Tahrir Square-style Muslim revolutions
