Though Obama claims he is not a Muslim, his ties to 'Trinity United Church of Christ' (a supposedly "Christian" organization) still puts him in close proximity to Farrakhan, as the church recently honored Farrakhan with a "lifetime achievement award" (read more here). Farrakhan is a known racist, anti-Semite and anti-American "minister" who preaches this hatred as part of his 'Nation of Islam' religion. His rhetoric is very similar to the kind of anti-American rants typical of Obama's former spiritual advisor - Rev. Jeremiah Wright. (Read more about Obama's religion here.) Obama's church also supports "Liberation Theology" which is essentially socialism by another name. Obama may, or may not, believe himself to be a "messiah," but he certainly does nothing to discourage others from saying that he is. He is frequently depicted with shining halos floating over his head in press photographs, looking upward, with a flawless (almost luminous) complexion. His rallies are attended by "fainters" who are swooned by the mere presence of the man. Some Obama supporters even send their young children to "Obama Youth" camps where they learn to sing messianic style praises about their fearless leader (see videos here). The examples of this are nearly endless. If Obama didn't want people to think of him as a "messiah" he would distance himself from the comments of Louis Farrakhan, and the endorsement of the 'Nation of Islam.' I predict he will do neither. The "messiah" endorsement works well for him politically, so if that's what people want to believe, I'm sure Obama will allow them to believe it. Just as he has with everyone else who's leaned toward this sort of nonsense.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church has the following to say about messianic political figures...
676 The Antichrist's deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgement. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism, especially the "intrinsically perverse" political form of a secular messianism.'The Catholic Knight' cannot stress enough just how dangerous Barack Obama's messianic candidacy is in the context of 20th century history. Every political figure in the last century, particularly in Europe, who allowed and promoted a messianic view of himself, turned out to become a horrible dictator. Sorry, that's just a historical lesson. I'm not saying that of Barack Obama, not yet anyway, I'm just saying that's what history teaches us.
