AGRP: (The show interviews TEPCO workers, the Japanese government, and NRC, showing only one side of the story. Where is the other side?  TEPCO workers were at Fukushima during the meltdown, but this show completely ignores the fact that the earthquake caused the meltdowns and then melt OUTS, not the tsunami. Narrator does not talk about how TEPCO knew the plant was melting down, but REFUSED to disclose this for THREE MONTHS, while doing completely inadequate evacuations. The show focuses mainly on just 1 reactor, but six reactor melt downs and seven spent fuel pools were involved.)

28: KI tablets handed out in 1 village on day THREE, but that was done CONTRARY to TEPCO and medical authorities, which they fail to mention and it was also done much too late, because once the radioactive iodine plume comes over (via venting on day 1) it is already too late.

29: On day 3, Col. Shinju Iwakumi, talks about how Special Defense Forces were called in to help deal with nuclear disaster and inject water in unit #3. Then the building exploded, they were injured, and fled immediately, without doing anything. (No mention is made about what happened to them healthwise, or to their radiation contaminated vehicles as of 2014. Again, this is all part of the 'official' santitized pro TEPCO, pro government, pro NRC version of events. Where is the 'other' side, which true journalism requires?)

31: Parts of Fukushima were 'inaccessible', and accessible parts were 1,000 mSv/Hr, and that "a couple of hours of exposure to this meant death."

(Ok, this is another example of how the show has HUGE pieces missing. Where are the medical doctors who are experts on the effects of radiation and long term effects of this, such as Dr. Caldicott MD?)

(No links were drawn about WHY the radiation was so high. No specifics were given about how many spent fuel pools, how many reactors melted down and out. This is another example of minimization. B staying very general and vague, and focusing on nothing at all of any REAL substance or meaning, much less the radiation dangers to the workers, it serves the nuclear industry and covers up the true scope and severity of his mega nuclear disaster.)

32: TEPCO called PM Kan on day 5 and told him that all hope was lost and they planned to take everyone out of Fukushima and let it go. Kan knew that total plant evacuation meant 6 reactors and 7 spent fuel pools would all melt down, melt out and/or explode and catch on fire.

(More minimization and cover up by NOT talking about what SHOULD have been done, and how the government and TEPCO did not do what they were supposed to do. This is exactly what happens after every nuclear disaster.)

33: Plant Manager announced evacuation of ALL 250 workers on site. He told workers "Just go home. We have done this much, we can do no more." At about this same time, PM Kan met with TEPCO executives in Tokyo, telling them NOT to abandon the plant, and to keep some workers there. 

35: Day 5; All but a skeleton crew was evacuated. The Fukushima 50 was all that stood between an ELE event. Radiation levels were too high to have workers lay pipes to 'cool the reactors'. 

36: NRC comment; the low number of people on site was not sufficient to do what needed to be done at that time. US flew a drone over site and "got pretty clear indication that there was fuel damage in the spent fuel pools, due to lack of water."

37: PM Kan ordered dropping water on spent fuel pools by air, much like at Chernobyl, where helicopters dropped lead and other chemicals on corium blob. The helicopter crews who did this knew that at Chernobyl all of those involved in the flights, died of cancer afterwards.

38: A helicopter flight had been abandoned due to high radiation levels over the reactors. From the video one can see where a small amount of water hits the rods in the pool, steam goes up and then disappears again, showing how there was no water left in the pool that was targeted in just ONE building. 

40: NRC said they monitored radiation levels to see if they went down after these water drops, and they didn't. US govt. drew plans to evacuate all 90,000 citizens from entire country of Japan and advised all US citizens to stay at least 50 miles away from Fukushima. Japan had no such advisory, during the entire mega nuclear disaster, and their evacuation remained at 12 miles. 

41: Flakes of 'fuel' were scattered around the plant. Kan ordered Tokyo firefighters to put water into spent fuel pools; on day 8, by any means necessary. 

(The narrator is covering up the fact that these fuel fragments came from the explosion of #3, thus providing semicover for the 'official' TEPCO story that no fuel left the reactors and no containment was breached. No plutonium was released either, which this show conveniently never even mentions, either way.)

44: One reading; 70 milliSv/Hr.. radiation alarms going off all around. Then radiation increases to 100 milliSv/Hr. Firefighters hook up sprayer and pour water on ??? nothing was specifically identified, but probably spent fuel pool #3.

46: Day 9, hundreds of TEPCO workers came back "after radiation levels dropped", and lay miles of pipes for cooling water. No one wore dosimeters, so no one knew what kind of radiation they were exposed to. No radiation meters are visible with workers walking around either, and no alarms are going off.  TEPCO did not tell workers were any 'hot spots' were. They were just ordered in with no protection.  They "broke the rules, and kept quiet about it".

48: Narrator makes claim that no Fukushima workers have died from radiation, which is the PR news release straight from TEPCO. (This is another minimization and deception straight from pro nuclear playbook of what to say after a nuclear disaster.)

49: Narrator says "Radiation from Fukushima contaminated hundreds of square miles of northern Japan". More than 100,000 people were evacuated. 

(This is another minimization, and no mention is made of what SHOULD have happened, or actual radiation found in soils, forests, rivers, etc. This generalization and minimization is another technique used to cover up the severity and scope of nuclear disasters.)

Via Cisco August 7, 2014 Serves you right Mr. O'Brien. Traveling "to Fukushima three times and six times entered the exclusion zone", you have been sufficiently radiated like those on the USS Ronald Reagen. Because you choose your paycheck over reporting the truth, you are are a dead man walking. Fact is Mr. O'Brien, you won't be able to lie your way out of your own premature demise.

"O’Brien: Of course local health officials have been following the evacuees in the Fukushima region and they say there have been more than 1,600 deaths attributed to stress. In the end, perhaps the biggest risk associated with nuclear energy might very well be the fear of nuclear energy."

Anyone claiming that Fukushima will result in zero deaths, is cut from the same cloth as the pro nuclear industry apologists who all claim that Fukushima is 'only' 10% of Chernobyl, no plutonium left the buildings, no spent fuel pool melted or burned at all, nothing left containment, and this is just a regular decommissioning plant, in cold shutdown. Further all radiation is beneficial to health, so no one can die from whatever is coming out of Fukushima, or has in the past.

Anyone who believes ANY of the above is listening too much to the PR propaganda put out by the industry that needs to survive the Fukushima mega nuclear disaster death blow, which should have put it out of business, permanently. The mega disaster is getting WORSE with time, not better. Anyone with even a small measure of common sense can see that. PBS is part of the problem at this point, not the solution.
