According to Arjun Makhijani, all normally operating nuclear reactors release radioactive tritium and other invisible radioactive elements into the air. This radioactive tritium gas rises up into the air, and floats downwind. This tritium then comes back down with the rain, as do all of the other radioactive gases and particles released on a regular basis both from normally operating reactors and from each and every nuclear accident or nuclear bomb..

At Fukushima; "Massive quantities of radiation escaped into the air and water – three times more noble gases (argon, xenon and krypton) than were released at Chernobyl, together with huge amounts of other volatile and non-volatile radioactive elements, including cesium, tritium, iodine, strontium, silver, plutonium, americium and rubinium. Eventually sea water was – and is still – utilized to cool the molten reactors.

Tritium is radioactive hydrogen H3 and there is no way to separate tritium from contaminated water as it combines with oxygen to form H3O. There is no material that can prevent the escape of tritium except gold, so all reactors continuously emit tritium into the air and cooling water as they operate. It concentrates in aquatic organisms, including algae, seaweed, crustaceans and fish, and also in terrestrial food.

Like all radioactive elements, it is tasteless, odorless and invisible, and will therefore inevitably be ingested in food, including seafood, for many decades. It passes unhindered through the skin if a person is immersed in fog containing tritiated water near a reactor, and also enters the body via inhalation and ingestion. It causes brain tumors, birth deformities and cancers of many organs.

RAIN AND SNOW CAN BE RADIOACTIVELY 'HOT'

Bottom line, the rain downwind of any nuclear reactor, nuclear accident or nuclear bomb can be 'hot', so it is advisable to stay out of the rain, especially so in areas downwind of them, even as far as several thousand miles away. Even natural radon can make rain radioactively hot (and hazardous) for at least one day, and up to several days.

The problem with tritium that makes it even worse, is that normal Geiger counters cannot detect ANY radioactive tritium in water, even if it is present at very high and lethal levels. This means that even if you do have a Geiger counter, and the rain registers normal background radiation, it might still be 'hot' with radioactive tritium, and you will never know it. The above map and overlaid rain/snow pattern shows how radiation levels spike with rain or snow, more than likely from radon washout, and it is possible that at least a few of these storms are 'enhanced' with tritium from nuclear plants during fuel change or regular daily emissions. The RadCon map is done by the EPA and the radiation symbols are their radiation monitors. Bottom line, it pays to stay out of the rain unless you know it is safe because you are doing a rainswipe test on your own.

HUGE RELEASES OF RADIATION NORMAL DURING FUEL CHANGE OUT AT NUCLEAR PLANTS

The graph above lays out how nuclear plants do release massive amounts of radioactive tritium gas on a daily basis, but they release even much more so, when the change out fuel rods.

The worst times to be downwind of a nuclear reactor is when they change out the fuel and open up the reactor core, thereby releasing a massive amount of tritium and other radiation, all at once in one huge 'burp'. But how does the public know when this is, because the operator of the nuclear plant does not inform anyone about anything. They release a massive amount of radiation when a reactor change out happens, but no one knows, because all of this radiation is invisible and in the case of tritium, it is also undetectable.

They just 'average' out this huge release and label it 'diluted' over the whole year. The only problem is that this release happens just once a year, all at once, and only during a fuel change out, when the reactor is opened up.

HUGE AMOUNTS OF RADIOACTIVE TRITIUM RELEASED DURING ALL NUCLEAR ACCIDENTS

At Three Mile Island, a massive amount of radioactive tritium was released and also stored in the water within the building as the fuel rods melted down. They 'evaporated' this radioactive tritium into the air after the 1979 accident. The 'experts' claimed that this is harmless because the tritium was 'diluted'. This same thing is now being happening at Fukushima, plus they are dumping it into the ocean on a regular daily basis.
