Greifswald Unit 5 (KGR-5) Nuclear Power Plant Melted Down
Location: Lubmin, Germany.
Reactor Type: VVER-440, Model V-230, Pressurized water reactor (PWR).
Power: 1,375 MWt; 440 MWe.
Began Operating: Grid connection April 1989.
Melt Down Occurred: Partial fuel meltdown November 24, 1989 when four of six cooling pumps were inoperable and control of reactor was lost.
Shut down: 1991.
Could this be a video of the actual meltdown while it was happening?
There isn't any information about this nuclear power plant. There are no pictures and no videos other than these, which are not really worth watching, so they REALLY kept this one secret and under wraps. This meltdown is not mentioned in the 'official' records of meltdowns either, so someone worked really hard to keep this one secret.
via Homolumina April 2, 2014 "There was much more going on than only one meltdown at unit 5. Unit 1 almost melted down in 1975, when they had a cable burn and only the cooling system of reactor 2 prevented a meltdown… In 1982 they had problems because of corrosion – those problems were not permanently resolved and persisted… There were frequent disruptions because of accidents – all was kept secret – here a list of the accidents:
1974 – bursting of fuel rods
1975 – cable burn, fire in machine room almost meltdown
1977 – fire in the chemical water recycling unit (CWA 1)[6]
1981 – two pipelines are confused and the reactor is overheated
1982 – Disruption because of corrosion on the steam boil pipes
1984 – Leak in the primary circulation system
1985 – coolant from primary circulation gets into secondary circulation system
1988 – complete system breakdown of reactor block and electric emergency system break down of all signal givers and Sensors[6]
