95% of Silk Worms Die, Survivors Grow 10 times Normal Size On Tokyo Soil Contaminated With Fukushima Radiation

Life cycle of a silk worm

This video shows silk worm building cocoon over many hours, sped up into two minutes.

Insects are about 100 times more sensitive to radiation than humans are, so it should be no surprise that silk worms exposed to the radiation in Tokyo soil die at a rate of 95%, and those that are left suffer from gigantism, which is a common genetic defect caused by radiation in insects, plants, animals and humans.

The study which actually proves this effect comes from here;
"The worms of container 1, 2 and 3 seems to me to grow normally, however, the ones in container 4 are abnormal. They remind me of Godzilla.
I suppose that they grow enormous not because their DNA was damaged but because the damage to epigenetics of DNA causes to produce more growth hormones than usual. When about 2-year old silkworms are grown on a chipboard, rapidity of growth varies greatly. It is considerable that chemical materials affect hormonal series. Some female patients of Suginami sickness grew a mustache or male patients had brest.
Almost all eggs of the container 4 died maybe because of the damage byalpha ray, however, the damage happened not to be fatal, so that there were some larvas still alive, though they should have been affected by radioactivity during the process of growth."

What happens to insects, also happens to animals, plants and humans. There is no 'safe' dose of radiation. Even low doses of radiation can cause extremely negative health effects, not just in insects, but also in animals, plants, and humans. Tokyo should have been evacuated. Just because the government publishes a maximum permissible dose of radiation in food, water or air, does not make it 'safe'. Any dose of radiation beyond background raises the risk.
