Israelis elevating its state of readiness on its northern front in light of reports that events in Syriawill have major repercussions on the Jewish State, Thursday’s Al-Hayat reported. “The inactivity of Hezbollah at the military level at this time does not mean the situation will remain like this. From our side, we will always be at the utmost state of readiness as if war might break out next week,” Israel’s Home Front Defense Minister Matan Vilnai was quoted as saying while inspecting the northern Israeli district of Kiryat Shmona for its level of preparedness. “Hezbollah realized that Israelis able to confront it in a strong way which makes [the party] cautious against any move toward Israel,” Vilnai also said.

Commander of the Herev Battalion Lieutenant-Colonel Shadi Abu Fares oversaw a drill simulating border clashes earlier this week. Abu Fares says that Lebanese troops deployed on the border prevented pro-Palestinian protesters from approaching the border fence on Naksa Day last June, but are unlikely to flee to the north in the next conflict. "It is our estimate that they will take part in the fighting. They are regarded as the enemy. We have no intention of opening fire at them and they are aware of their responsibilities on the border," Abu Fares told Ynet. Tensions between Israeland the LAF have grown in the past year and a half, as Lebanonmoved from pro-Western rulers to a Hezbollah-affiliated regime.

The defense and health ministries will stage an exercise dubbed ‘Orange Flame 6”in the north next week and simulate an “unconventional terrorist” attack. The two-day drill next Wednesday and Thursday will simulate a biological outbreak of a contagious disease, attacking and infecting the cities of the north, primarily Afula, Tiberias, and the Nazaretharea in the Galilee. The Defense Ministry intends to hold additional drills in the field of unconventional terrorism in the coming year.
