Prophecy Sign:  The rise of Russia as a major player in end-times events

Bible prophecy talks about a power from the northern most parts above Israel that will align itself with the likes of Iran, Turkey and Libya and attempt to invade Israel.  This northern nation is headed by someone that the bible labels as Gog.  Looking at a world map, the nation most north of Israel is Russia.

Most bible prophecy experts have identified this nation, which is written about in Ezekiel’s prophecy of an end-times war, (Exekiel chapters 38/39), as Russia and or many of her former satellites that made up the old Soviet Union.  As to whom Gog is, that will likely be the leader of this northern confederacy at the time of this prophetic war against Israel.

Interesting to read how Vladimir Putin, a former KGB agent, and the current Russian Prime Minister is working hard to re-establish some sort of defacto Soviet Union under the guise of an economic union.  Putin is expected to win the Russian Presidency in 2012 which would have him as head of Russia for several years.  Perhaps long enough to become the Gog of prophecy leading the land of Magog, (the northern alliance) in alignment with much of the Muslim middle-eastern world against Israel?

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was due on Wednesday to push for closer ex-Soviet integration after the surprise announcement of a free-trade zone being created in the former communist bloc. Former KGB agent Putin has put a closer union with the now-sovereign republics at the top of his agenda since announcing plans to return to the Kremlin in a job swap with President Dmitry Medvedev in March. He promoted a “Eurasian Union” in an article published on October 4 – an idea denounced by leading Republicans in the US Senate – and on Tuesday disclosed the creation of a new post-USSR free trade zone.
