Gaza militants fire rockets deep into Israel

Israel and the Palestinians are tossing bombs back and forth.  Aren't these two combatants supposed to be negotiating a peace treaty?  With a coming deadline of this September for some movement on a negotiated settlement, and thus far not even close, the prospects of the current hostilities escalating is of great concern.  The world is ready to declare a brand new Palestinian state by this fall, but Israel fearing for its own security, may have other ideas.  All of this could be the trigger to a coming war.  Perhaps the battle outlined in Psalm 83, Isaiah 17 and Obadiah.

From the news articles:
Palestinian militants in Gaza fired a new wave of rockets that landed deep inside Israel Thursday, defying Israeli retaliatory attacks and threats. Police said Gaza militants fired 10 rockets and mortars toward Israel Thursday, including two rockets that exploded north of the city of Ashdod, a main Mediterranean port city about 20 miles (30 kilometres) north of Gaza.

The Israel Air Force bombed an arms depot in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday, which according to Palestinian sources, belonged to the military wing of Hamas. The attack was carried out around local time, after two rockets and several mortars were fired from Gaza at southern Israel earlier Thursday.

As Russian, Israeli and Saudi leaders discussed the ramifications of the Arab uprising in Moscow and US Defense Secretary Robert Gates talked to Israeli military chiefs in Tel Aviv, the Palestinian Hamas continued to escalate its missile offensive on Israeli cities. Thursday, March 24, heavy Grad missiles hit the towns of Ashdod and Ofakim making it the worst day of a bad week, with schools in the southern half of Israel shutting down one by one and bomb shelters being opened.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US Defence Secretary Robert Gates on Friday that Israel is ready to act with "great force" in response to a spate of rocket fire by Gaza militants and a deadly bus bombing in Jerusalem. Israel had been "subjected to bouts of terror and rocket attacks," Netanyahu told reporters before going into a meeting with Gates. "We stand ready to act with great force and great determination to put a stop to it," he added, with police saying Israel had not been hit by any projectiles Friday morning.
