Is Volcanic Rock Or Lava Radioactive? Why Isn't Volcano Lava The Same As Man Made Corium?

Pro nuclear apologists claim that all man made radiation is the equivalent and not different from 'natural' radiation found in Nature, including in magma and volcanoes. People often do not understand the difference between artificial man made radioactive elements that can form corium when it melts down inside of a nuclear reactor, or when it melts out of a reactor. Most people have no idea what makes man made corium drastically different from the lava corium coming out of volcanoes and flowing downhill or exploding out of the mountain tops.

What comes out of a volcano? Is the lava coming out of a volcano the same thing that comes out of a melting down nuclear reactor?

Would you prefer man made corium lava flows and explosions plus the radioactive smoke, which Chernobyl and Fukushima created, or the Nature made version, which has been happening for billions of years?

Man made lava has 1,946 radioactive elements and heavy metals in it and it is super radioactive. It will kill you just standing next to it. As you explore the links above, you will come to understand the super lethality of artificial man made elements coming out of all nuclear facilities and particularly from melting corium from a nuclear facility, or the 'melting' and exploding radioactive elements coming out of a nuclear bomb.

Universities can 'experiment' with lava created by melting basalt rocks for example. But these researchers wouldn't dare try this with spent fuel from a nuclear reactor.

VOLCANIC LAVA IN ISOLATED INSTANCES MAY HAVE 1 TO 3 RADIOACTIVE ELEMENTS PRESENT IN VERY DILUTED AMOUNTS, HAVE BEEN THERE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF EARTH'S FORMATION

Nature made volcanic lava has three radioactive elements in it present at very diluted parts per million or billion. In a few cases, in very isolated places, a person can find uranium, thorium and radon in lava coming out of a volcano, but only if they have special equipment, because in most cases it will not even show up on a Geiger counter. Volcanoes definitely do not have 1,946 radioactive man made elements, gases, actinides, isotopes and heavy metals coming out of them. If volcano lava were even remotely like nuclear plant lava, the planet would not have life on it, due to the lethal radiation levels that would quickly result if something like that were to happen.

You can stand next to a Nature made lava, or the cooled off basalt or granite all day long and you won't even feel a tingle. You won't die in 300 seconds by standing next to the cooled off volcano lava. But if you try to do stand next to the lava coming out of a nuclear plant like Chernobyl, TMI or Fukushima for example, you will die very quickly, in a matter of seconds to minutes. If you try to touch it and carry it around you will also die very quickly, in  a matter of seconds to minutes.

Wikipedia; "Terrestrial radiation, for the purpose of the table above, only includes sources that remain external to the body. The major radionuclides of concern are potassium, uranium and thorium and their decay products, some of which, like radium and radon are intensely radioactive but occur in low concentrations. Most of these sources have been decreasing, due to radioactive decay since the formation of the Earth, because there is no significant amount currently transported to the Earth.

Thus, the present activity on earth from uranium-238 is only half as much as it originally was because of its 4.5 billion year half-life, and potassium-40 (half-life 1.25 billion years) is only at about 8% of original activity. The effects on humans of the actual diminishment (due to decay) of these isotopes is minimal however. This is because humans evolved too recently for the difference in activity over a fraction of a half-life to be significant.

NATURAL VOLCANO LAVA CORIUM - HORMETIC BALANCE; LIFE HAS EVOLVED WITH WHATEVER IS IN IT FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS

How radioactive and dangerous is 'natural' lava produced by Nature via the Earth's natural processes?

Via Bob Zavoda "As a geologist, I understand it this way: In the context of nuclear proliferation, radioactivity refers to the short and mid-range decay half-lives of controlled, neutron-bombarded, Uranium and heavier elements. Radioactive lava is virtually not possible! Volcanoes erupt Earth's molten mantle rock. Our sun is 4 1/2-billion year-old and so are its elements, of which, all the short and midterm radioactive isotopes have already been spent - except for a little Uranium 235, because of its "full" life of 7 billion years, compared to Uranium 238 with 40 billion! Like I said, "I'm a geologist," not a physicist.

"Radioactive" is a nuke lobby weasel-word, meant to confuse non-physicists, including Cullen and Buessler, in order to halt the debate so more of this crap can be made, right under our noses! These pros will mix and match the facts of man-made vs. left-over-after-the-formation of our solar-system "radioactivity". As Dana Durnford correctly put it, "It's homeostasis." That is, we are part of life today. Our bodies have adapted to the so-called "background" radiation - a little Uranium 235 and others left over with extremely long lives as "ionizing" emitters, and their "daughters" Potassium, isotopes, etc.,,,, www.BeSolar.info"

Despite ongoing volcanoes since the beginning of the Earths formation, 4.5 BILLION YEARS AGO, there have been NO PROBLEMS with making thousands of square miles unlivable due to radiation and heavy metal poisoning for any life forms. But just the few nuclear plants that have melted down and out, have poisoned thousands of square miles with man made radioactive elements.

NUCLEAR PLANT ACCIDENTS RELEASE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MAN MADE ARTIFICIAL ELEMENTS, NEVER SEEN BEFORE BY ANY LIFE OR GENES

List Of All 30+ Global Nuclear Reactor Melt Downs; via @AGreenRoad

The very low background radiation of rocks and lava and the .2 ppm scattered thorium or uranium that can be found in a certain percentage of specific types of rocks, such as granite (but not all rocks, sands or soils), is something that all life is used to because it has genetically been around these things for millions of years of evolution.

There have been no problems with atomic radiation, until the nuclear industry starting making artificial man made corium. Man made corium lava is made in part by concentrating the most dangerous, most radioactive parts of uranium containing rocks, through crushing them and then leaching out the uranium with acids and then burning that 'fuel' inside of nuclear reactors.

ALL NUCLEAR REACTORS RELEASE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF DEADLY HEAVY METALS AND MAN MADE RADIOACTIVE POISONS, JUST DURING NORMAL OPERATIONS

As nuclear facilities concentrate, process, and burn radioactive elements, they transmute natural minerals via neutron radiation into ever more deadly and poisonous man made elements that then go into the air, water and ground. These man made radioactive elements for all intents and purposes, have never been seen before in human history, so humans have no defense against them, much like American Indians had no defense against the diseases brought by 'settlers'.

CORIUM FROM LAVA COOLS WITH EXPOSURE TO AIR AND WATER, MAN MADE CORIUM LAVA DOESN'T COOL OFF

There is a huge difference between the lava coming out of nuclear reactors and the lava coming out of a volcano. Lava that comes out of a volcano cools upon contact with air or water. It turns into ordinary rock that can be used for all kinds of things, such as making concrete, building roads, etc.

Man made corium lava coming out of nuclear reactors does not cool off in contact with water or air, it keeps on 'burning' with a radioactive fire that goes on for a LONG time, if left to it's own devices.

Nuclear fires from reactors and/or spent fuel pools emit radioactive smoke and poison gases that if inhaled, will kill anyone breathing it at close range. Radioactive gases coming off of nuclear reactor lava corium can be deadly even if breathed in after it goes downwind thousands of miles. Volcanoes release things like sulfur and other minerals, but the smoke is not radioactive. A volcano will definitely not release radioactive and poisonous Xenon, Curium, Tritium, Plutonium and Iodine, as a man made corium lava blob will.

A NUCLEAR LAVA CORIUM FIRE WILL RESULT IN MASSIVE NUMBERS OF INFANTS DYING GLOBALLY, A VOLCANO DOES NOT DO THAT

As a result of invisible but deadly man made radiation such as Iodine 121 coming out of Chernobyl, TMI and Fukushima, untold numbers of infants around the world died. Only the US deaths after Fukushima are itemized in the link below, from a peer reviewed study.

Imagine the total death toll from Fukushima all around the world, just in the first few months.. Why isn't this a crime? Why aren't the people responsible for all of these deaths in jail? Why is Japan hiding their health statistics information since the Fukushima accident, especially around newborns, birth defects, stillborns, birth rates, genetically linked diseases, etc?

With a Nature made volcano, there is absolutely no need to hand out KI tablets, and kids do not get thyroid cancer years later, as a result of breathing in invisible 'smoke' from a volcano thousands of miles downwind of an eruption. But this is what happens after a nuclear meltdown with a nuclear lava corium blob burning away inside of a nuclear reactor. If it melts out of a reactor, things just get MUCH worse.

Sacrifice Zones, Nuclear Power and the Sacrificial Victims System Is Spreading Globally As Part Of Predatory Capitalism

LET'S PERFORM A SIMPLE SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENT

Some readers are not convinced yet, and they still believe the pro nuclear apologists, who claim that volcanic lava is the same as corium lava coming from a melted out nuclear reactor or spent fuel pool. Most people love science and the scientific method, so let's perform an experiment and see what happens.

As a simple experiment, let's compare a geologist walking up to a red hot lava corium in a volcano picked at random, and then compare doing that same thing with a man made red hot lava corium coming out of a nuclear reactor or a spent fuel pool.

In the video below, the geologists walks up to a red hot brand new corium lava flow in a volcano, and he does not take a Geiger counter with him, as countless other geologists have done before and after him... What will he find?

GEOLOGISTS AND BRAVE TOURISTS WALK UP TO RED HOT LAVA REGULARLY, WITH NO ILL EFFECTS

Geologists walk up to the edges of lava flows and craters containing hot lava regularly. Other than protecting themselves from heat, they do not take any special protective measures and they take no radiation meters with them when studying active volcanoes, because there is no danger from radiation coming out of a volcano.

Here is an example. The geologist takes along no radiation meter, and dresses up only in heat reflective suit. Hot volcanic molten lava is no different than cold volcanic lava rocks. They are no different in terms of radiation.

ANYONE CAN WALK UP TO COOLED OFF VOLCANIC LAVA, WITH NO ILL EFFECTS

You can do this same experiment with 'cooled off' volcano rocks. Walk up to any 'old' lava flow or the granite rocks found in several locations all over the world and take a Geiger counter with you. What will you find? You will find either no radiation or pretty low levels in certain kinds of granite. Granite is not found everywhere, and there are many kinds of lava rocks. Rocks are either slightly radioactive or not, depending on their types. Most rocks are not radioactive, and granite that is radioactive is pretty hard to find globally. Most of the world lives in areas were the rocks and soil is not radioactive.

The person testing the rocks to find one with uranium in it is picking them up with his bare hands. You can do that with uranium/thorium sand or rocks. But you cannot do that with melted and cooled corium lava that comes out of a nuclear reactor, such as Chernobyl, TMI, or Fukushima and live to tell about it.

TRY TO WALK UP TO A CORIUM LAVA AT A MELTING OUT REACTOR, AND YOU DIE

Walk up to a brand new corium lava flow coming out of a reactor or spent fuel pool at Fukushima. You will need to take a very high capacity Geiger counter with you that can measure thousands of Sieverts of radiation. What will you find? Bottom line, you will not live to tell about it, as the radiation from a fissioning corium coming out of a reactor will kill anyone coming near enough to take a sample, within several seconds to several minutes. You will not be able to walk up to a red 'hot' lava flowing out of a nuclear reactor and take a sample of the red hot corium lava as the geologist is doing above. You will be dead before you get the sample, or within seconds of running up to it, grabbing a sample and trying to run away. You will not get far, before dropping dead.

This experiment is confirmed as nuclear scientists got close to an 'old' but cooled off man made lava corium in the basement of Chernobyl. Several scientists who tried to do this paid for it with their lives, due to radiation exposure.

1 MILLION CHERNOBYL CLEANUP WORKERS SACRIFICED THEIR HEALTH AND MANY THEIR LIVES BY GETTING CLOSE TO MAN MADE CORIUM LAVA ROCKS

CORIUM FROM REACTORS EMITS 12,000 ROENTGENS OR MORE PER HOUR, COMPARED TO NONE FROM VOLCANO LAVA

Over 3,000 Chernobyl workers who did cleanup work on the roof of the Chernobyl reactor building were exposed to 12,000 Roentgen, which is equal to 111,900.00 m/Sv per hour, (12 min. in) from graphite blocks on the roof of the Chernobyl reactor. Bits of melted corium thrown out on the roof were even more radioactive than that. The graphite blocks were next to the nuclear fuel inside the reactor. Approximately 1 million people were sacrificed to try and prevent a larger scale nuclear radiation disaster, and many people suffered severe negative health effects from this meltdown, contrary to what you hear from the nuclear industry cheerleaders.

CORIUM LAVA FROM REACTORS OR SPENT FUEL POOLS CANNOT BE TOUCHED OR HANDLED BY HUMAN BEINGS, OR THEY DIE IN THE ATTEMPT

Via Alan Reid October 27, 2014 "The basement rooms of Chernobyl hold far larger slabs of coria/sand amalgam than the "Elephants foot". The men who died and were contaminated doing the work found 95% of the fuel trapped in piping, slabs and blobs throughout the lower levels. There is a map of the lava disposition visible on the wall during an interview showing their record of that search. The 'foot' is just the most famous.

The other deposits in those rooms are far larger masses. One room is totally filled with it. The foot room was the only place they could manage access to gather samples. A rifleman liberated enough of the foot for testing by shooting at it. A couple of Kg of it were recovered, Apart from that all the fuel is still sitting there today untouched, trapped in those rooms and piping. Nobody is ever going to remove that fuel from Chernobyl and Fukushima is going to present the same barriers to access the Russians had.

It's a real nasty truth but Chernobyl and Fukushima are situations that can only be made worse. The wish to remove the fuel from Fukushima is as dead as the wish to remove fuel from Chernobyl. The water flows under Fukushima will have to be dealt with somehow and that is going to be one hell of a job. Twenty Eight years since Chernobyl was blown up, the extent of the efforts boils down to covering the mess with a roof to help contain the dust events stemming from collapse of the old sarcophagus."

Thousands of cleanup workers got a HUGE invisible, deadly and cancer causing dose of radiation in seconds, just from being close to very tiny piece of cooled off lava corium that came out of a nuclear reactor. There is no human way to clean up the deadly dangerous corium from nuclear reactors. Even robots die when they close to radiation levels like this, so they cannot be used to clean up these messes either.

These melted out coriums will only cost huge amounts of money paid for by taxpayers to try and shield them from contact with the environment and living things for the next million years. The sarcophogus was built with taxpayer money, not with funds from the nuclear industry. They never pay anything to clean up their messes or pay victims. And that cover needs to be replaced ever 100 years, for an infinite future, at a cost of $1 Billion or more each time.

Ukraine raises $785m to Seal Chernobyl Under New Entombment 'Shell', Is Fukushima Entombment Possible?
http://agreenroad.blogspot.com/2012/04/ukraine-raises-785m-to-seal-chernobyl.html
None of this happens with natural granite lava rocks or volcanoes. Volcanoes do not need to be 'entombed'.

Fukushima is so bad and so many reactors and spent fuel pools melted down and/or out, that it cannot be covered by anything, and the soil will not hold the weight even if it were possible to engineer a cover.

WHAT DOSE DO WORKERS GET FROM BEING EXPOSED TO MADE LAVA CORIUM?

1,000 mSv (Millisievert) = 1 Sievert, so the Chernobyl workers got exposed to 111 Sieverts per hour.

Just 1 Sievert is considered deadly if exposed to it for 1 hour. 100 Sieverts is deadly in seconds.

How many hours or days you can survive before you reach 1 Sv/hr, which equals 1,000 mSv?

1 hr or less exposure at 1 Sv/Hour or 1,000 mSv/hour = 1,000,000 uSv/hour = 100 Rem/hour

ORIGIN OF NATURAL COOLED LAVA CORIUM

"Both lobes of the batholith have a different composition on the west than the east side. On the west side the rocks are tonalites or quartz diorites, whereas on the east side they range from granodiorites to granites. The boundary between the two composition types also coincides with the 0.704 Sr87/Sr 86 boundary and also the boundary between the Mesozoic and Paleozoic eugeoclinal accreted rocks on the west with the continental Precambrian rocks on the east side (Hyndman, 1985). Hyndman (1985) further proposed that the granodiorite and granites on the east side originated by melting of Belt Supergroup or pre-Belt continental crustal rocks. These continental sedimentary rocks were melted by hot mafic magmas rising from the same subduction zone that produced the tonalites. Evidence that the granodiorites and the granites on the east side contain substantial melted continental sedimentary rock include: (1) high Sr isotope ratios, (2) high SiO, and K20, (3) abundant muscovite-orthoclase-quartz minerals, and (4) rounded zircons dated at 1700 to 1800 million years derived from the continental crust of pre-Belt age.

In other words, lava from a volcano has nothing to do with the lava corium inside nuclear reactors at all. They are so different that they cannot even be compared. One type of lava consists of a rock that has been around for billions of years and is then recycled through the center of the Earth, coming back up via volcanoes.

The man made corium is artificial and man created elements that are deadly dangerous to the point where no one lives if they dare to walk up to it, much less do anything with it. TMI was only cleaned up because they figured out how to do things remotely using long handled instruments and a deep pool that shielded the workers from radiation.

Chernobyl and Fukushima have no convenient water shielding around the man made coriums, so they cannot be cleaned up.  Robots die if they try to get close.

IS HOT MAGMA OR LAVA CORIUM IN VOLCANOES RADIOACTIVE?

The centre of the Earth is hot because of radioactive reactions. Hence the question. If it is, does it contaminate the soil? Geologist Greg answered.... Most lava is no more radioactive than the rest of the Earth.  However, some granites (formed by cooling magma) can have... elevated levels of Uranium, Thorium and Potassium (radioactive elements), about 1000 times higher than average crust. But these radioactive elements are sourced from the crust, not the core. These granites are excellent sources of geothermal heat due to the very high heat output.

OrbitalPeteVolcanology | Sedimentology
Answer - No more so than the rock it forms

In other words, it depends, but even at worst, granite rock that has detectable radiation coming out of it has absolutely nothing to do with and cannot be compared to the man made corium lava inside of a melting down reactor or the corium lava from inside the reactors getting outside, as in the case of Chernobyl, TMI, Santa Susana, and Fukushima.

For people who don't know any better, nuclear 'experts' like to falsely claim that all radiation (including the man made kind) is natural and 'safe'. By now, a reader should be able to see that there is a HUGE difference between the very low background radiation levels found in Nature and certain rocks and the concentrated, refined, and poisonous man made radiation found inside of nuclear reactors and spent fuel pools.

These deadly dangerous man made radioactive elements must be protected with insulating water barriers, metal shields and multiple safety systems, because they are that toxic, deadly and dangerous. Yes, you should be afraid of this invisible poison, and for good reason.

GRANITE IS FORMED FROM MAGMA

What is the chemical make up of Nature made lava that forms granite, which is the most radioactive lava that a person can find in the world? The primary minerals found in lava are NOT radioactive and none of the minerals are man made, as the list below shows...

Wikipedia; "Granite is formed from magma, or lava.

COMPOSITION OF GRANITE

A worldwide average of the chemical composition of granite, by weight percent, based on 2,485 analyses:[6]

SiO2 72.04% (silica)

Al2O3 14.42% (alumina)

K2O 4.12%

Na2O 3.69%

CaO 1.82%

FeO 1.68%

Fe2O3 1.22%

MgO 0.71%

TiO2 0.30%

P2O5 0.12%

MnO 0.05%

Potassium-40 is a radioactive isotope of weak emission, and a constituent of alkali feldspar, which in turn is a common component of granitic rocks, more abundant in alkali feldspar granite and syenites. Naturally, a geiger counter should register this low effect. Some granites contain around 10 to 20 parts per million (ppm) of uranium. By contrast, more mafic rocks such as tonalite, gabbro or diorite have 1 to 5 ppm uranium, and limestones and sedimentary rocks usually have equally low amounts. Many large granite plutons are the sources for palaeochannel-hosted or roll front uranium ore deposits, where the uranium washes into the sediments from the granite uplands and associated, often radioactive pegmatites. Cellars and basements sunk into soils over granite can become a trap for radon gas, which is formed by the decay of uranium.[15] Radon gas poses significant health concerns, and is the number two cause of lung cancer in the US behind smoking.[16]

Thorium occurs in all granites as well.[17] Conway granite has been noted for its relatively high thorium concentration of 56 (±6) PPM.[18]

There is some concern that materials sold as granite countertops or as building material may be hazardous to health. Dan Steck of St. Johns University, has stated[19] that approximately 5% of all granite will be of concern, with the caveat that only a tiny percentage of the tens of thousands of granite slab types have been tested. Various resources from national geological survey organizations are accessible online to assist in assessing the risk factors in granite country and design rules relating, in particular, to preventing accumulation of radon gas in enclosed basements and dwellings."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granite

NATURAL RADIATION IS NOT SAFE

Just because radiation is 'natural' does not mean it is 'safe'. Radon gas is well known to cause lung cancer if it is above a certain concentration in the air.  Workers exposed to radon in mines suffer from cancers at a higher rate.

Radon Dangers; Hormesis Explored; via @AGreenRoad

Uranium and thorium in Lava rocks

Precambrian quartz-pebble conglomerate-type uranium deposits occur only in rocks older than two billion years old. The conglomerates also contain pyrite. These deposits have been mined in the Blind River-Elliot Lake district of Ontario, Canada, and from the gold-bearing Witwatersrand conglomerates of South Africa.

Hydrothermal uranium deposits encompass the vein-type uranium ores. Igneous deposits include nepheline syenite intrusives at Ilimaussaq, Greenland; the disseminated uranium deposit at Rossing, Namibia; and uranium-bearing pegmatites. Disseminated deposits are also found in the states of Washington and Alaska in the US.[7]

HEALTH EFFECTS OF RADON GAS

The health effects discovered from radon exposure in unventilated uranium mining prompted the switch away from uranium mining via tunnel underground mining towards open cut and In-situ leaching technology, a method of extraction that does not produce the same occupational hazards, or mine tailings, as conventional mining.

With regulations in place to ensure the use of high volume ventilation technology if any confined space uranium mining is occurring, with both largely eliminating occupational exposure and mining deaths.[8][9] The Olympic Dam and Canadian underground mines are ventilated with powerful fans with Radon levels being kept low in uranium mines. Naturally occurring Radon in other, non-uranium mines, also may need control by ventilation.[10]

The uranium concentration of sea water is low, approximately 3.3 parts per billion or 3.3 micrograms per liter of seawater.[12]

Following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, the global uranium sector remains depressed with the uranium price falling more than 50%, declining share values, and reduced profitability of uranium producers since March 2011 and into 2014. As a result, uranium companies worldwide are reducing costs, cutting corners, and limiting operations. They are now looking more to traditional areas of low costs and poor governance (such as Africa) as the location for any new uranium mines.[25]

URANIUM ORE EMITS RADON GAS

Uranium ore emits radon gas. The health effects of high exposure to radon are a particular problem in the mining of uranium; significant excess lung cancer deaths have been identified in epidemiological studies of uranium miners employed in the 1940s and 1950s.[34][35] [36]

The first major studies with radon and health occurred in the context of uranium mining, first in the Joachimsthal region of Bohemia and then in the Southwestern United States during the earlyCold War. Because radon is a product of the radioactive decay of uranium, underground uranium mines may have high concentrations of radon.

Many uranium miners in the Four Corners region contracted lung cancer and other pathologies as a result of high levels of exposure to radon in the mid-1950s. The increased incidence of lung cancer was particularly pronounced among Native American and Mormon miners, because those groups normally have low rates of lung cancer.[37] Safety standards requiring expensive ventilation were not widely implemented or policed during this period.[38]

In studies of uranium miners, workers exposed to radon levels of 50 to 150 picocuries of radon per liter of air (2000–6000 Bq/m3) for about 10 years have shown an increased frequency of lung cancer.[39] Statistically significant excesses in lung cancer deaths were present after cumulative exposures of less than 50 WLM.[39]

What have we learned? Rocks, ocean water and lava may contain very minute fractions of 1 part per Billion to million of thorium and/or uranium, spread out within the ocean or rock, much like particles of dust floating in the air. If you try to detect uranium in ocean water, or if you walk up to a hot or cold lava granite type of rock with uranium or thorium in it, you will probably not even be able to detect it with a Geiger counter. Certainly a Geiger counter will not detect uranium in ocean water, because it is too diluted to detect.

Worst case, the Geiger counter shows what a 'cold' and old granite rock with 'natural' radiation in it emits; a maximum of .94 u/Sv per hour when in direct contact with the rock.

COMPOSITION OF MAN MADE LAVA CORIUMS

CHERNOBYL

In contrast to the minerals found in natural lava coming out of volcanoes, man made corium is made up of the fission metals such as uranium and plutonium, that are inside of the reactor, which then melt down, due to out of control fission reactions. Radioactive gases such as Xenon, Cesium, Tritium, Iodine, and many more are released.

These invisible radioactive gases and hot particles go downwind and are breathed in globally. Hot particles are also released as the corium lava blob burns with a radioactive fire that generates heat all by itself, as it melts downward into the ground. Unlike lava from a volcano, water and exposure to air or cool ground will not extinguish this fire. Lava coriums from nuclear reactors will burn even underwater.

How And Why Spent Fuel Pools Melt Down, Catch On Fire And Cause Armageddon Scenarios
http://agreenroad.blogspot.com/2014/06/how-and-why-spent-fuel-pools-melt-down.html

Wikipedia; "The mass was found to be homogeneous, primarily composed of molten fuel and cladding. The elemental constitution was about 70 wt.% uranium, 13.75 wt.% zirconium, 13 wt.% oxygen, with the balance being stainless steel and Inconel incorporated into the melt; the loose debris shown somewhat lower content of uranium (about 65 wt.%) and higher content of structural metals. The decay heat of corium at 224 minutes after scram was estimated to be 0.13 W/g, falling to 0.096 W/g at scram+600 minutes. Noble gases, caesium and iodine were absent, signifying their volatilization from the hot material. The samples were fully oxidized, signifying presence of sufficient amount of steam to oxidize all available zirconium.

Some samples contained a small amount of metallic melt (less than 0.5%), composed of silver and indium (from the control rods). A secondary phase composed of chromium(III) oxide was found in one of the samples. Some metallic inclusions contained silver but not indium, suggesting high enough temperature of volatilization of both cadmium and indium. Almost all metallic components, with exception of silver, were fully oxidized; however even silver was oxidized in some regions. The inclusion of iron and chromium rich regions probably originate from a molten nozzle that did not have enough time to be distributed through the melt.

The bulk density of the samples varied between 7.45 and 9.4 g/cm3 (the densities of UO2 and ZrO2 are 10.4 and 5.6 g/cm3). The porosity of samples varied between 5.7% and 32%, averaging at 18±11%. Striated interconnected porosity was found in some samples, suggesting the corium was liquid for sufficient time for formation of bubbles of steam or vaporized structural materials and their transport through the melt. A well-mixed (U,Zr)O2 solid solution indicates peak temperature of the melt between 2600 and 2850 °C.

The microstructure of the solidified material shows two phases: (U,Zr)O2 and (Zr,U)O2. The zirconium-rich phase was found around the pores and on the grain boundaries and contains some iron and chromium in the form of oxides. This phase segregation suggests slow gradual cooling instead of fast quenching, estimated by the phase separation type to be between 3–72 hours.[14]

The first phase lasted only several seconds, with temperatures locally exceeding 2600 °C, when a zirconium-uranium-oxide melt formed from no more than 30% of the core. Examination of a hot particle shown a formation of Zr-U-O and UOx-Zr phases; the 0.9 mm thick niobium zircaloy cladding formed successive layers of UOx, UOx+Zr, Zr-U-O, metallic Zr(O), and zirconium dioxide. These phases were found individually or together in the hot particles dispersed from the core.[17]

The coriums consist of a highly heterogeneous silicate glass matrix with inclusions. Distinct phases are present:

uranium oxides, from the fuel pellets

uranium oxides with zirconium (UOx+Zr)

Zr-U-O

zirconium dioxide with uranium

zirconium silicate with up to 10% of uranium as solid solution, (Zr,U)SiO4, called chernobylite
uranium-containing glass, the glass matrix material itself; mainly a calcium aluminosilicate with small amount of magnesium oxide, sodium oxide, and zirconium dioxide[27] metal, present as solidified layers and as spherical inclusions of Fe-Ni-Cr alloy in the glass phase[17]

Five types of material can be identified in Chernobyl corium:[28]

Black ceramics, a glass-like coal-black material with surface pitted with many cavities and pores. Usually located near the places where corium formed. Its two versions contain about 4–5 wt.% and about 7–8 wt.% of uranium.

Brown ceramics, a glass-like brown material usually glossy but also dull. Usually located on a layer of a solidified molten metal, contains many very small metal spheres.

Contains 8–10 wt.% of uranium. Multicolored ceramics contain 6–7% of fuel.[29][30]

Slag-like granulated corium, slag-like irregular gray-magenta to dark-brown glassy granules with crust. Formed by prolonged contact of brown ceramics with water, located in large heaps in both levels of the Pressure Suppression Pool.

Pumice, friable pumice-like gray-brown porous formations formed from molten brown corium foamed with steam when immersed in water. Located in Pressure Suppression Pool in large heaps near the sink openings, where they were carried by water flow as they were light enough to float.[31][32][33]

Radioactive metal, molten and solidified. Mostly located in the Steam Distribution Corridor. Also present as small spherical inclusions in all the oxide-based materials above. Does not contain fuel per se, but contains some metallic fission products, e.g. ruthenium-106.

RADIATION FROM GRANITE AND MAN MADE CORIUM COMPARED

Radiation level of man made cooled off corium 10,000 Roentgen          93,300.00 m/Sv per hour.
Compare that to the most radioactive 'natural' granite rock at                        .95 m/Sv per hour.

"In 1986 the radiation level on the ”Elephants Foot” was measured at 10,000 roentgens per hour, anyone who approached would have received a fatal dose in under a minute. After just 30 seconds of exposure, dizziness and fatigue will find you a week later. Two minutes of exposure and your cells will soon begin to hemorrhage... 300 seconds and you have two days to live."

In part, maybe now you understand why man made radioactive elements are so dangerous. Walking up to granite rocks or even red hot lava will not do anything like this.. But walking up to man made radioactive elements, whether hot or cooled off, will kill you fairly quickly.

VOLCANO LAVA IS DANGEROUS,  BUT NOTHING LIKE NUCLEAR REACTOR LAVA

A very infrequent volcanic eruption can destroy a whole country like Japan, by burying it under feet of ash, rocks and volcanic mud. But what happens if 50 nuclear power plants are buried in lava and then melt down because no human can get to them, and all power is lost going to them?

Experts warn of volcano destroying Japan at any moment, causing nation’s extinction — Millions buried by lava in minutes, ‘hopeless’ for 120,000,000 people — Reactors would be devastated and spread nuclear waste worldwide — Gov’t: Volcano near nuke plant is shaking, tremor 7 minutes long… ‘Stay away’ — Increased eruption risk due to 3/11 quake

What makes a volcanic eruption a global life ending extinction event is that nuclear plants would melt down and explode, releasing their poisons on top of what comes out of the volcanic eruption. Humanity cannot live through 50 reactors  and 50 spent fuel pools in Japan all melting down and exploding all at once, due to a very infrequent but unpredictable volcanic super eruption.

Humanity can live through a super volcanic eruption, but it cannot live through it, if nuclear plants are also operating at the same time as an eruption, because there is no way to get the highly toxic, radioactive fuel into a safe place.

SUMMARY

Some people would say that talking about the radiation that is in man made corium lava is doing nothing more than creating panic or fear, and that radiation is nothing to worry about, because it is the same as 'natural' radiation found in lava, volcanoes or ocean water. By now, if you have watched the videos and understand the chemical difference between man made lava corium and volcanic lava, you understand how totally insane this comparison is.

You also understand that if humanity is to have any chance at making it through the next 7 generations, it will be absolutely required to shut down all nuclear power plants globally.

IS WRITING ARTICLES LIKE THIS FEAR MONGERING OR EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT THE DANGERS POSED BY NUCLEAR INDUSTRY?

The pro nuclear apologists who claim that all man made radiation is healthy for people, and that volcanic rock is the same as corium from a melted down reactor would agree that this article is fear mongering, with no basis in fact at all. They claim that this article and all of the people taking this viewpoint are the problem, or the nemesis of humanity, not nuclear power. At this point, do you agree or disagree with them?

ChasAha October 24, 2014 "I would not call it 'needless' fear designed just to scare. Are you afraid? I'm not afraid. But I am now a bit more AWARE of how crazy it is to build Nuclear Power Plants on an earthquake prone, volcano prone, tsunami prone island. The idea (by genius experts) to build these things there in the first place is what really scares me."
