Russia and China vow to protect Syria from becoming another Libya

Prophecy Sign:  The coming middle-east wars - Syria

The situation is rapidly deteriorating in Syria and might well be the catalyst to a much wider and potentially devastating middle-east war.  China and Russia have already staked out sides alongside their allies in Iran and Syria.  Meanwhile reports indicate that there may already be British special forces in Syria.

At the same time, relations between Turkey and Syria are becoming very strained to say the least, with Turkish armed forces on high alert in anticipation of a military conflict with the Syrians.  Then of course there is the vast quantities of chemical weapons at the disposal of the Assad regime in Syria.  If the Syrian government felt in any way that their days were numbered, do you suppose they might consider lobbing some of those chemical weapons at Israel in a last ditched attempt to take the heat off and instead focused on a mutual enemy in Israel?

However all this plays out over the coming weeks, it's looking ever more likely that a long ago written prophecy of the final days may be close to fulfilment. That of the destruction of Damascus.

Concerning Damascus: Hamath and Arpad are dismayed, for they have heard bad news. They are disheartened, troubled like the restless sea. Damascus has become feeble, she has turned to flee and panic has gripped her; anguish and pain have seized her, pain like that of a woman in labor. Why has the city of renown not been abandoned, the town in which I delight? Surely, her young men will fall in the streets; all her soldiers will be silenced in that day,” declares the Lord Almighty. “I will set fire to the walls of Damascus; it will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.” Jeremiah 49:23-27 NIV

From the articles:
It is now widely known that the Obama administration, with the help of its allies, is planning to launch an offensive against the Assad regime in Syria. The attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, with the help Israel, also seems to be on the cards. In such a situation, where Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya have proven to be clear fiascos, the dwindling world economic scene can least afford another major conflict. Such interventions would not only induce wide scale human loss but would also bring with them adverse economic effects for the world states.  And with the recent announcement of joint war games, and one of the biggest, among China, Russia, Iran and Syria, the signal is going strong for forces that wish to intervene in either Syriaor Iran.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad declared on Tuesday that his country was at war and ordered his new government to spare no effort to achieve victory, as the worst fighting of the 16-month conflict reached the outskirts of the capital. Video published by activists recorded heavy gunfire and explosions in suburbs of Damascus. A trail of fresh blood on a sidewalk in the suburb of Qudsiya led into a building where one casualty was taken. A naked man writhed in pain, his body pierced by shrapnel. Syria's state news agency SANA said "armed terrorist groups" had blocked the old road from Damascusto Beirut.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has warned Syria that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) have been given instructions to treat any approaching Syrian military unit as a threat, a sign that the Syrian crisis sparked a bilateral conflict between the two neighbors after Syrian forces shot down a Turkish reconnaissance jet in the Mediterranean. Noting that the attack has resulted in a new phase in Turkish-Syrian relations, Erdoğan said it is now clear “[Syrian President Bashar] al-Assad’s regime has become a clear and present danger to Turkey’s security.”

Turkeyand Syriaare locked in a fierce struggle that has escalated greatly following Friday's downing of a Turkish Phantom F-4 jet by the Syrian authorities. The two heavily armed neighbors are inching gradually into a military confrontation, one that is unlikely to be isolated and that has the potential to turn into a region-wide conflict. Consequently it could take just one spark -- an incident such as this -- to ignite a fire between Ankara and Damascus, the flames of which could enflame the entire region.
