It has been several days since our last blog entry on the number of earthquakes and volcanos that have been reported around the world.  Nearly every day there is a report somewhere of an earthquake of at least 6.0 magnitude in size, or a report of another volcanic eruption.

A strong earthquake shook northern Japan on Thursday night, but there is no danger of a tsunami. The Meteorological Agency said the magnitude 6.1 quake struck off the southern coast of Hokkaido at 7:25 p.m. The quake hit at a depth of about 30 kilometers. The agency did not issue a tsunami warning.

A strong earthquake struck Thursday morning near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant hit by a powerful tsunami earlier this year. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-5.9 quake struck shortly before 4:30 a.m. local time. It hit 101 kilometers east of the nuclear power plant. The quake struck at a depth of 37 kilometers.

A deep 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck Beni, just north of the mountainous region of eastern Bolivia. The depth of the earthquake was more than 533 km (331 miles) below the surface. The earthquake was so deep in fact- that USGS initially recorded readings from seismometers showing the quake had a 6.9 magnitude intensity.

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale rocked India's northeast, Myanmar and Bangladesh on Monday, triggering panic among people. The tremor was felt at 8.47am in most parts of Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, besides in Bangladesh and Myanmar.
