World Food Prices Rise to Near-Record High as Inflation Speeds Up

Prophecy Sign:  A food crisis would envelope the world at the time of the end, and into the Tribulation

Food prices continue to rise to record levels around the world.  While not so much of a problem right now for those in the more affluent nations, these rising prices cause enormous problems in the third world.  Driving more people into poverty, causing civil unrest, and potentially leading to many deaths.  This is what the Apostle John foresaw when he recorded future events to come in the book of Revelation.  He told us that food would become very, very expensive.

When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”  Revelation 6:5-6 NIV (Basically a days worth of food for a days wage).

From the article:
World food prices rose to near a record in April as grain costs advanced, adding pressure to inflation that is accelerating from Beijing to Brasilia and spurring central banks to raise interest rates. An index of 55 commodities rose to 232.1 points from 231 points in March, the United Nations’ Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organization said in a report on its website today. The gauge climbed to an all-time high of 237.2 in February before dropping 2.6 percent in March.
