The Next Big Lebanon-Israel Flare-Up: Gas

Prophecy Sign:  New-found riches in the nation of Israel which will cause others to seek a plunder.

Bible prophecy tells us that an alliance of nations will attempt to invade Israel with one of the purposes of seeking plunder and wealth.  With Israel’s recent discoveries of Oil and Natural Gas, the prospective of a very wealthy and energy secure Israel is just around the corner.  Might this been one of the carrots that bring the combatants prophesied in the book of Ezekiel against Israel in a not too distant future war?

This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On that day thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil scheme. You will say, “I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people—all of them living without walls and without gates and bars. I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land. Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her villages will say to you, “Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?” Ezekiel 38:10-13 NIV

For most countries, the existence of a massive fossil-fuel deposit within its sovereign territory would be gratefully welcomed as an economic windfall. But the delight in Israel at the recent giant gas discovery off its northern coastline is tempered by the knowledge that it could provide the spark to ignite the next war between the Jewish state and its mortal foe to the north, Lebanon's militant Shi'ite Hizballah. The stakes are enormous. Both Lebanon and Israel currently have little or no oil or gas deposits, and are dependent on neighboring countries for importing fuel and power.
