Fighting the Fungi That Threaten Wheat

Prophecy Sign:  Famines and Pestilence throughout the world at the time of the end.

Another of Jesus dire warnings concerning the events that would be occurring prior to his return to earth would be that of pestilences and famines.  We have seen so many things begin to happen in rapid succession that will ultimately cause great foods shortages and famines.  From the mysterious loss of bees around the world, to climate anomalies, (forest fires, droughts, flooding), to insect infestations, (locust in Australia), to rising oil prices which affect food production, to plant diseases such as this article warns of.  It is absolutely amazing how all these events are happening one right after another.

Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Matthew 24:7-8 NIV

When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth. Revelation 6:7-8 NIV

From the article:
Fungi that attack wheat are growing as a threat to the hungry inhabitants of poor countries. At a conference this week in Aleppo, Syria, scientists will be planning a counteroffensive.  The fungi have damaged wheat grown in a broad ribbon of dry climate from Morocco to northern India, where as much as 60 percent of the crop has been lost, said Mahmoud Solh, the center’s director.
The prevailing theory is that wetter winters caused by climate change are helping the fungi persist until new crops are planted.  Rich countries can afford fungicides and new resistant varieties of wheat; poor ones cannot. Food prices are being driven up by other factors, including summer fires and farmers growing crops for ethanol instead of food.
