Iran Signs Deal for Permanent Naval Base in Syria

There is no question that Iran is fast becoming a power in the middle-east, with major influence.  Iran was behind the take-over of Lebanon by Hezbollah, (a sworn enemy of Israel).  Iran is said to be influencing the events in Bahrain where the Shiite majority are uprising against their Sunni leaders, (Iran is lead by Shiites).  And now Iran is setting up military facilities in Syria, (another sworn enemy of Israel).

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad believes that it is his destiny to stir up as much trouble and unrest as possible throughout the middle-east, if not the entire world, in order to usher in the 12th Imam, or Mahdi, (the Shiite messiah of the last days).

Iran, (or Persia as it is referred to in the bible), is prophesied to be a major player in end-time prophecy.  Iran will eventually march against Israel along with nations to the north, (likely Turkey, Afganistan, Pakistan, and many of the Muslim former provinces of the old Soviet Union), along with Muslim nations to the south, such as the Sudan, Ethiopia, and Lybia.  This is all foretold in the book of Ezekiel, chapters 38 & 39.

From the news article:
Following the arrival of two Iranian warships in Latakia, Syria after their passage through the Suez Canal, Iran and Syria have signed a deal that will allow Iran to build a permanent naval base at the Syrian port. In addition to providing a Mediterranean home for Iran’s navy, the deal provides for a weapons depot for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, housing and base facilities for incoming troops, and logistical support for submarines.
There is no question this poses a grave threat to Israel. The head of Syria’s Navy described the agreement as one that would “cripple Israel.”
