Thousands flee as Philippine volcano erupts

A busy couple of days with earthquake and volcanic activity.  We found the 5.9 earthquake that shook the entrance to the Suez Canal just prior to the Iranian warships going through to be very interesting.  A little message from God himself on his displeasure with the Iranian provocations?

Thousands of people in the Philippines fled their homes as a volcano erupted on Monday, sending a spectacular column of ash high into the sky, residents said. The eruption of Bulusan, a 1,559-metre (5,115-foot) volcano, turned mid-morning into night for about 20 minutes across largely farming areas around its slopes, regional army spokesman Major Harold Cabunoc told AFP.

A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake has struck in waters south of Fiji. There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage and no tsunami warning has been issued. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake struck on Monday 549 miles (883 kilometres) south of the capital Suva, at a depth of 335 miles (540 kilometres).

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook up residents at the entrance to the Suez Canal early Monday morning, 48 hours before two Iranian ships, a frigate and a supply vessel, are expected to enter the canal.

A moderate earthquake struck Baja California on Sunday morning, with shaking felt up to San Diego. No major damages or injuries were reported, authorities said. The magnitude 5 quake struck at 11:34 a.m. Sunday just south of Mexicali, according to The U.S. Geological Survey.
