Iranian warships arrive in Syria, witness says

Syria and Israel mix about as well as oil and water.  The two states have been pitted in battle on three occasions since Israel became a nation in 1948.  The Arab/Israel war of 1948/49, the Six Day war of 1967, and the Yom Kippur war of 1973.  None of those conflicts went well for Syria, with the Syrians even giving ground to Israel with the loss of the Golan Heights, (still a major issue with Syria).

Well it would appear Syria has not learned her lesson well, and is still looking for a fight with the Jewish State.  Recent news reports indicate that Syria may still be working on nuclear programs, and has now allowed two warships from Iran to dock at her Mediterranean port of Latakia.  Israel considers the Iranian ships in the Mediterranean to be a provocation, and more so as the ships drop anchor in Syria.  Both Iran and Syria are sworn enemies of Israel.

The bible tells us that a future war involving Syria and Israel will once again not go well for Syria.  In fact, the capital of Syria, Damascus, will become a heap of ruins.  (Interesting to note that Damascus is one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in the world and has never been a "heap of ruins" during that time).  Psalm 83 tells us that Syria will once again involve itself in a war with Israel, with the goal of wiping out the Jewish nation. Isaiah 17 foretells of the destruction of the city of Damascus.  When war comes, and it is looking closer and closer every day, the Arab nations that border Israel will attack Israel from all sides with many soldiers and armaments.  Israel’s only way to secure victory against such an onslaught may be the use of nuclear weapons.  Isaiah 17 seems to suggest such an event as Damascus becomes a heap of ruins in sudden terror overnight.

A witness said two Iranian warships docked in Syria on Thursday, completing a voyage that has raised tensions with Israel during a time of upheaval in the Middle East. The ships arrived at Syria's Latakia seaport, after sailing through the Suez Canal and into the Mediterranean - the first such trip in at least three decades.

Two Iranian naval ships arrived Wednesday afternoon at the Port of Lattakia in Syria, after crossing the Suez Canal Tuesday, Iranian news agency IRNA reported. An Iranian senior official told IRNA that Iranian Navy Commander Admiral Habibula Siari is slated to arrive  to Damascus later on Wednesday, accompanied by a delegation of military officials.

Western intelligence agencies suspect Syria may have been building a secret nuclear-related site near Damascus, a German daily said, and a U.S. think-tank suggested it could be linked to a site bombed by Israel in 2007. If confirmed, Thursday's report by the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper would add to Western fears that the Arab state had engaged in covert nuclear activity before the Israeli attack and may increase pressure for action by the U.N. nuclear watchdog.

Syria established four additional nuclear facilities aside from the one bombed by Israel in 2007, the US Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) reported late Wednesday. The report, which was published alongside a report by the German daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung, explains that Syria's nuclear program was far more advanced than previously believed and included, in addition to the reactor destroyed at al-Kibar, a uranium conversion facility and three storage sites.

Syria is suspected of harboring a uranium conversion reactor near the town of Marj as Sultan, near Damascus, according to a publication released Wednesday by the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security based on reports by the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung.  The facility is related to the nuclear reactor project at al Kibar that was bombed by Israel in September 2007, and it was reportedly used for processing uranium, according to the report.
