Icelandic volcano 'set to erupt'

What's with all the volcanoes these days?  From Japan, to Iceland.  From Russia to Yellowstone.  Volcanoes are either showing ominous signs of life, or are spouting off with minor eruptions.  It's a bit disconcerting to say the least. Unless you know that all this was prophesied in the word of God, (the bible), to happen as we approached the end-times.

Of course we all know we live on a very active planet when it comes to seismic activity and volcanic activity.  But when events begin to happen all over the world at the very same time, one has to ask if this is normal activity.  And if this isn't normal, what does it mean?  A quote from the book of Revelation might help:

I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Revelation 6:12-14 NIV

Rather a scary section of scripture, one that seems to describe a major global earthquake and subsequent volcanic eruptions that literally shake every island and mountain.  When we read news headlines like the ones included in this blog entry, and then read the warnings from Jesus Christ, (Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21), we can appreciate that we are the generation that will not pass away until all things have happened.

“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree, (Israel): As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, (reborn as a nation – 1948), you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, (Christ’s return), right at the door. Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Matthew 24:32-34 NIV

And how long is a generation?  According to a passage in the book of Psalm, 70-80 years.  You do the math.  Add 70-80 years to the date 1948, and you can conclude that we are very near to the end of this generation.  Are you ready?

Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. Psalm 90:10 NIV

From the articles:
Scientists in Iceland are warning that another volcano looks set to erupt and threatening to spew-out a pall of dust that would dwarf last year's event. Geologists detected the high risk of a new eruption after evaluating an increased swarm of earthquakes around the island's second largest volcano. Pall Einarsson, a professor of geophysics at the University of Iceland, says the area around Bárdarbunga is showing signs of increased activity, which provides "good reason to worry".

The huge volcano under Yellowstone National Park has been rising at an unprecedented rate during the past several years, according to a new study. The recent rising is unprecedented for Yellowstone's caldera — the cauldron-shaped part of the volcano — but it's not uncommon for other volcanoes around the world. The new study has simply revealed a more active caldera at Yellowstone than scientists realized

A volcano in Russia has begun erupting, spurting ash up to four kilometres into the sky. Aircraft have been warned against flying in the area around the Kizimen volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula because of the threat posed to engines by the particles of volcanic ash.

Seismic activity was detected in the northwestern part of Vatnajökull glacier over the past few days and there is full reason to be on the alert, according to geology professor Páll Einarsson. More earthquake sensors are needed, he said. The series of earthquakes occurred close to Kistufell and Bárdarbunga, which are among the most geologically active areas in the country, ruv.is reports.

Now the world has something else to grip about when it comes to Russia - the weather. A string of volcanoes on Russia's eastern seaboard of Kamchatka have been unusually active for the last six months. The dust they threw up diverted winds in the Arctic, pushing cold air over Europe and North America and causing the unusually cold winter this year, say scientists. The volcanoes (160 in total, of which 29 are active) are still on the go and could create more problems this year, depressing harvests around the world just as global food prices soar and culminating in a second freezing winter next Christmas.
