Food costs at records, no let up on prices: FAO

Very expensive food prices will be one of the seal judgements during the Tribulation period.  There will be many factors that result in these incredibly high prices.  From drought to wars.  We keep pointing our readers to Revelation 6:6 which describes a time when a days wage will only buy enough food for the day.  Think about that for a minute.  If you have an average industrial wage of $25 per hour and work an 8 hour shift, it would mean your 3 square meals a day would set you back $200, with nothing left over.  Think that can't happen?  Just ask anyone who lived during the days of hyperinflation in pre-world war two Germany if it can happen.
From the articles:
World food prices hit a record in January and recent catastrophic weather around the globe could put yet more pressure on the cost of food, an issue that has already helped spark protests across the Middle East. Up for the seventh month in a row, the closely watched Food and Agriculture Organization Food Price Index on Thursday touched its highest since records began in 1990, and topped the peak of 224.1 in June 2008, during the food crisis of 2007/08.

Surging wheat prices are certainly one (though not the only) cause of rioting upheaval in Tunisia, Egypt, and elsewhere. And guess what. If things get worse, that could feed back into the food problem. That's because this region is a major source of diammonium phosphate, which is a major ingredient for growing... wheat.
