Wild weather from Australia to America

Some might call it the effects of Global Climate change, we suspect the anomalous weather this year has more to do with solar activity.  The Sun was in a period of inactivity, and the globe warms up.  The Sun starts to awaken from its slumber, and the weather goes nuts, and starts to cool.  Coincidence?  We think not.

Anyways, which ever theory you prefer, it certainly is a topic of conversation around the water coolers of the world.  From governments to media, from Hollywood to Bollywood, climate change has been has been all the rage and the major concern of world leaders for over a decade.  One might say that the world is even perplexed with the problem:

The western United States is bearing the brunt of new winter storms, with heavy snow blanketing an area from New Mexico to Minnesota. Snow and ice have closed a number of major roads, with Arizona particularly badly hit. Forecasters have predicted as much as 18in (46cm) of snow in some parts. The eastern seaboard is just recovering from a winter storm that paralyzed transport, bringing an apology from New York's mayor over clean-up efforts. Ice and snow forced the temporary closure of Interstates 40 and 17 in northern Arizona, with a traffic hotline in the state taking more than a million calls on Thursday. Phoenix was braced for rare freezing temperatures.

Floodwater rose across a vast area in Australia's northeast on Friday, inundating 22 towns, forcing 200,000 residents out of their homes, and closing a major sugar export port. Flooding has already shut coal mines in Queensland state and its biggest coal export port, forcing miners such as Anglo American and Rio Tinto to slow or halt operations. The worst flooding in about 50 years has been caused by a "La Nina" weather pattern, which cools waters in the eastern Pacific and has produced torrential rain over the past two weeks across northeast Australia.

Military aircraft dropped supplies to towns cut off by floods in northeastern Australia as the prime minister promised new assistance Friday to the 200,000 people affected by waters covering an area larger than France and Germany combined. Residents were stocking up on food or evacuating their homes as rising rivers inundated or isolated 22 towns in the state of Queensland.
